Welcome to Atkins. Did you know that there is a cheese limit of 3-4 oz a day? And did you know that Bars and Shakes can stall you and are recommended for emergency only??
So your main meals look pretty good. But you should find some different snacks. It will get easier because the hunger will leave you and you may not need them. Do you use www.fitday.com ? It is a great site. Read the stickies in the induction forum. they even have a print out there of allowable food. Ask any questions you have there or the main forum...everyone here is pretty helpful. Oh yeah...and take your measurements!!! You will be glad you did later. And drink your water!!! Makes a HUGE difference. Keep posting and good luck!

Re: What I ate on my first day.

welcome to ADBB and toi Atkins. have you read Dr Atkins' New Diet Revolution 2002 version? That is the version this place uses because we have had the best success using chapter 11 induction foods and rules so everybody that posts back to you is going to tell you about the bars and shakes as being no nos.

I'm sure you know about slimfast and how they stay in business cause they help get the weight of drinking the shakes but when you reach goal and eat real food again you didn't learn new habits so you gain again and then sure as shooting you use the miracle shakes to lose it again and again.

Well Atkins aint like that cause we use real food from day one and we build a good foundation right from day one with those 3 cups of induction acceptable veggies, eating real foods as our meals and snacks, drinking all the water we should be having to help us lose our weight, doing the mandatorey exercise part of Atkins boith the resistance and the aerobics, and taking the supplements we need based on our poor food choices during induction.

After we have laid that foundation we move to OWL and frame our house of Atkins eating with the real foods grouped by GI on the carb ladder testing each one to see how our body's metabolism will hande them. When we are 5-10 pounds from goal we move to Premaintenance and put on the roofing with more of those same food groups eating more of the healthy veggies, nuts, fruits, and grains as tolerated by our body's metabolism and activities levels so we can finally at goal live with our house of Atkins WOE for a lifetime of healthy eating maintaning our new weight and health following our Atkins WOE.

SO get rid of the bars and shakes and do it with real foods you will be enjoying for the rest of your life as a healthy part of your Atkins WOE. You want the strongest best Atkins WOE foundation on which to build your Atykins WOE house.

      Happy low carbing.

Re: What I ate on my first day.

Thanks for the replies Elsie & 2big. I'm actually feeling quite overwhelmed right now. I can't sleep. I have an awfull headache & am very depressed on the verge of crying. I understand that is just my bodies response to not haveing the sugar it's use too.

I'm not a huge meat eater and feel somewhat disgusted by the amount of meat I ate today. I know the shakes and bars are bad. I just don't know I can cut them out at this point seeing that they are the only thing I'm really enjoying.

          Hi Valerie

You dont 'have' to eat more meat than you like to eat.

Lots of us get our fat from oils, butter and cream etc, by using it to cook with or adding it to cooked veggies. Not only does that 'up' our fat but it makes most food taste much better too!!

There is an interesting post on this board talking about simple ways to increase our fat - and showing it doesnt take much to improve our ratios to the 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs that we are aiming for, which might help you.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: What I ate on my first day.

did you know Atkins isn't a high protein plan but actually a high fat plan? you want only 30% of your calories toi be in the form of Proteins 65% in fats and keep the carbs under 20 net for induction. it is almost impossible to hit the % numbers exactly during induction so just get close. www.fitday is a great free online tool you can use to track your foods and see your percents.

FYI bacon is a fat according to dieticions not a meat. you had burger, chicken, and salami as meat. you got more protein from your eggs and cheese too. What kind of protein foods do you like? once your 14 days are up you can move to OWL and have nuts and seeds, and legumes for protien too.

Re: What I ate on my first day.

Thanks again for the advice. I'm sorry to say I went off the diet last night. I was so horribly depressed. I was crying just about all night and couldn't sleep. I finally went to bed at like 5am with the help of some valium.

I've been fighting with depression my whole life and am on medication for it. I just couldn't deal with a diet that would make my depression worse.

Re: What I ate on my first day.

I am so sorry to hear that Valerie Joy!! I have found the opposite to be true with me after the sugar withdrawals (1 day migraine and 4 days headaches). I have more energy and more motivation and a more lightened mood than ever before. If you do decide that you might like to give it a go again. Please feel free to ask as many questions before you start so that we can steer you in the right direction and that way you will not get discouraged about not having the bars, etc and have a clean induction and so a successful one right from the start. We will be here if you ever decide to try again. All the best to you!!!
