Having breakfast gives your metabolism a jump start in the morning and going too long without eating will inhibit the fat-burning process. Have something ready in the fridge for the mornings so you don't have to think about it. You don't need to sit down to a full-on breakfast, just one boiled egg, or some tuna or egg salad eaten with a celery stick, or one ham and cheese roll-up will be beneficial to get the furnace burning.
And don't just contemplate drinking water. keep it at hand and sip all day..work on making it an unconscious part of your day that you do out of habit.
I was going to go until I couldn't take it anymore, I know DANDR says otherwise.
Why? What would be the point of that? If the book says not to do that, why would you want to go against a proven plan?
What do you think that's going to do to your blood sugars? Unstable blood sugars trigger cravings, and you've already admitted you have a sweet tooth problem. Eating every few hours (even eating a small amount) keeps things on an even keel and it makes you feel much much better.
Dieting on Atkins is not about denial...relax and embrace that.
You're not doing yourself any favours doing what you're doing. Perhaps Atkins isn't for you. You can check out our sister board which supports low carb eating and I believe other woe's as well. If Atkins is for you, get out your book, read it and follow it! We're here to help you along the way.
Why no dressing on your salad? On Atkins you are encouraged to eat fats, so why not some Italian, Ranch or Blue cheese dressing? The combination of fat and protein fills and satisfies a person, thus cutting down the likelihood of cravings.
I can't help but think if you were following the plan as laid out in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, you would do much better. Skipping breakfast, and not eating as recommended is not working for you.
Yes you are an addict, but you can change.
Sit down and read the chapters in DANDR about Induction again. Focus on reading about blood sugars and how eating the correct foods can keep you from going on a binge.
Ask yourself what those sweets offer you. They aren't really worth it are they? Think about why you ate them. Were you hungry? Were you bored? Did you feel left out?
Keep a water bottle firmly clamped in one hand and tell your family that you are going to put all that crappy food out of sight in one cupboard and tell them to respect that you do not want to be tempted by it. Better yet, stop buying it. It's not good foe anybody, is it?
Start taking control of this...don't let it take control of you. You're better than that...you deserve so much more than what candy can offer you.
There's nobody else who can change your lifestyle but you.
As Dr. Atkins says, "Give me two weeks"...two weeks is not a long time. Some times you have to take it a day at a time, a meal at a time, even a bite at a time...but 14 days is not very long.
I didn't know they have dressings like Ranch without the sugar?
I've always skipped breakfast, even as a child out of habit I continue.
Sweets offer me understanding, satisfaction, doesn't put me down or argue with me and soothes my soul.
I need to give it two weeks. I want it soooo bad, but I don't know if bad enough to give my companion sugar up for it. I don't mean to be a downer, I'm giving you an honest assessment of where I'm at.
Reading DANDR 2002, I can review, but I honestly twitch without the sweets after a day. I get the shivers just thinking about giving it up.
I hope I'm not a basket case. I have plenty of Ketone sticks ready and food to do this.

I had always skipped breakfast too, for as long as I can remember. But I figured, it's two weeks, I can eat something every morning for just two weeks, I'll see what it does to my body.
And you know what? Now I wake up, drink 8oz of water, and it's just part of my routine to go eat. I'm learning to enjoy breakfast. I don't feel as crappy the rest of the day and I don't have any cravings at ALL anymore.
I seriously think one of the reasons Atkins is working for me is the fact that I *do* finally eat real meals. Before this, I'd skip breakfast, snack a bit in the afternoon, then overeat at night. Now I eat 3 meals a day, plus small snacks and I find I never overeat at all. I just don't want to.
There's another thread somewhere on here recently about a microwave egg poacher. I have one, and I recommend it highly. If you aren't used to eating in the mornings, poached eggs are great. They don't feel heavy and they go down so nicely when you eat them.
And as for sugar, here's how I think about it. I compare sugar to being in a bad relationship. You know its bad for you, but you stay and stay and never can figure out why you do. But my god, the feeling you get when you finally break free is euphoric. Now, you being a Diva and all, I know you wouldn't let some other person treat you badly, so I know you're strong enough to not let sugar treat you badly. Pack sugar's bags and send him out the door. And feel GOOD about doing it.

I've pondered on what you said about sticking to it for 2 weeks, and I'm feeling good today and I'm not craving sugar.

Hi Diva
Looks to me as if you are having too much protein for induction. Maybe have a different meat - the days I have skinless chicken breast I find I really have to work to get my fats high enough, as the chicken has so much protein as compared with fat.
Did you know that if you 'make your journal public' by scrolling down the home page of your fitday account and clicking on the link you can post a link here so others can see the actual foods you are entering as well as the numbers?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies? Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Don't worry about the salad dressings having sugar in them. Most of them do and the ones like ranch, blue cheese, etc. always will have trace amounts. Even mayonaise can have trace sugar. If it's 4th or 5th or more on the list of ingredients, it's fine. You really just need to check the carb count of the dressing. There is "sugar" and natural ones at that in alot of foods, including veggies.
Also, the "hot links" you are having, is that sausage? Are you watching the ingredients in those too? Sausage products can often have alot of additives and nitrates (and sometimes extra carbs) that aren't always as good for you. If you can get the sausage directly from the butcher, that might be better. I have sausage, but try and limit it to maybe 2-3 times a week, at most. It's ok to have other meat such as beef, lamb, seafood too. And eggs!
If you do Atkins right, you will help curb those cravings for sweets. But it will take time and discipline to not cheat. Make it a goal to go as many days as you can without cheating and with eating properly, 3 meals a day, lots of water, lots of good proteins, fats and veggies.
