  • Day 1 Menu

Well here is day 1 almost over. I can't believe I ate that much all day! I never eat breakfast, and hardly ever lunch. My main meal would be supper. I have been so full all day. Breakfast was hard for me this morning, but I did manage to get it down. So this is my day 1 menu...any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Breakfast
2 egg omelette (mushroom, green onion, green pepper, cheese)
    2 sausage rounds (1carb)
    Lunch
Salad (different kinds of baby lettuce leaves, fresh shrimp, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, green onion, green pepper, fresh mushroom, radish, sprouts, and cubes of cheese)
2 tbsp Roasted Red Pepper and Parmesan dressing (4 carbs)
    Supper
Grilled chicken Caesar salad with bacon bits and Grated mozzarella cheese
    (NO CROUTONS)
3 tbsp Caesar dressing (3 carbs)
    Snack
    1 hard boiled egg
    Pepperoni and cheese sticks

    Total Carb count is 10
    Total water consumption 64 oz

    Re: Day 1 Menu

Looks like a good choice of foods to me! You have spread your veggies across the day which is good to keep your insulin spikes to a minimum

Did you count the egg carbs? There is .6 of a carb in each egg, and one ounce of cheese should be counted as 1 carb regardless of the actual count. I think Dr Atkins said this to make sure we don't 'overdose' on cheese!! LOL

Are you counting your vegetable carbs in that carb count too? We are aiming at getting over half of our carbs from vegetables, don't forget!!

Your water consumptioon might be a bit on the low side if you are trying to lose weight, as in addition to the 64 fluid ounces eveerybody should drink, we need to drink an extra 8 for each 25 pounds we are trying to lose.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        luvs2,

I would watch the sausage rounds on inductions - probably best to stay away from sausages for the first two weeks.

And the coffee, mmmmmm Atkins does say for induction you should give up coffee.

        Take that as you will,

Congrats on getting through the day!

Looks great to me to. I think you understand it well. Just remember to keep your vegges at 3 cups and then when your done with induction add another cup.

            Re: Day 1 Menu

Thank you for your replies. I only manged to follow for 2 days last week. Hard to deal with the family wanting and eating pasta, rice and of course potatoes. So back on this week. Made it through day 1 yesterday, and upped my water intake to 96 oz. As for the coffee, I figured that 1 cup a day wouldn't hurt me, as that is pretty much all I drink. Stick to water the rest of the day. I also found that eating that much a day made me gag. I'm not a 3-meal a day person. So this time I had breakfast around 11 am, then skipped lunch and had supper. I did snack in the afternoon. Not because I was hungry, just out of habit I think. So I had some egg salad made up in the fridge and just had 2 tbsp and 1 piece of pepperoni to crave that "I need to put something in my mouth" hahahaha Had bbq'd steak, steamed brocolli and cauliflour as well as about 3 cups of salad with dressing. I never got through all of it as I was full. According to the book, only eat till you are full, NOT stuffed. I was good all evening, never craved and wasn't hungry. Just drank water. Thanks again

              Re: Day 1 Menu

You have a two choices here and sorry if I sound blunt but here goes.

You can eat according to Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution...a proven plan that works if you follow the Rules of Induction and eat correctly from the Acceptable Foods list...you can listen to our advice about making sure you eat breakfast (even if it's just a few bites) and go no more than six hours without eating, space your veggies out through the day and switch to decaf.

Or you can do your own version of a low carb diet which involves skipping breakfast, going long stretches between meals, eating lots of vegetables at one sitting (which can play havoc with blood sugars) and continuing to have caffiene.

All we ask is that if you feel you aren't losing weight like you see others losing here in the forums, that you don't say that "Atkins doesn't work for me!"

Don't get me wrong, doing a low carb diet is fine, and we have a low carb sister board you can go to if you choose to do your own thing.
We will happily help you if you want to follow Atkins....but you need to meet us halfway and make the changes necessary to ensure your own success.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you all the best, and if I can help, please let me know!
