confused if I'm doing my veggies right.

  • confused if I'm doing my veggies right.

    Hi. The veggie part of the diet confuses me a little and I was wondering if someone could tell me if it sounds like I'm doing it right. Usually I'll have something like this every day.......

    2 cup lettuce = 1 carb
    5 cherry tomatoes = 3 carbs
    1 cup broccoli = 2 carbs

    so thats only 6 gram net carbs but I thought you were supposed to have at least 10 grams of carbs in veggies during induction? should I add one more cup of broccoli to up my carbs a little or is it strictly just the ONE CUP and no more?

    for example todays meal only came up to 14 grams net carbs,is that okay or do I need more to reach the 20 gram mark?

    breakfast was

    3 eggs
    3 breakfast beef links
    1 TBS butter
    1 oz mozzarella

    lunch

    2 cups romaine
    5 cherry tomatoes
    3 oz cheddar cheese
    5oz baked chicken
    1 TBS bacon bits
    3 TBS ranch dressing

    dinner

    2 hamburger pattys
    1 cup broccoli
    1 TBS butter


    does that sound about right? sorry for all the questions,I'm just really confused right now and feeling like giving up. Also,if you dont feel like eating salad are you allowed to skip it and instead have say 1 cup green beans and 1 cup broccoli for the day as long as you stay under the 20 gram limit? Or must you eat a salad every day? Oy! confusing.....

    yep you are a little confused first you don't hve to have 20 net carbs just stay under 20

    next 1/2 your total for the day carbs have to come from your veggies 2 cups from the salad veggies but not required to be eatten as salad, so if you are going to eat low carb lettuce as your veggies in large amounts then you will not be having all those other carby foods.


    you also want to have some of your healthy carbs at every meal so you are getting your balanced fuel all day long.

    Check your carbs and ingredients in your bacon bits to see if they met the acceptable foods for induction. Many don'r you can crumble your own bacon to get the bits if you want.

    the rest of your food choices looks good.

    remember we aonly eat enough food to satisfy our hunger at the time we are eating andonce that hunger is satisfied we stop eating even if we have food on theplate carbs inthe buget and room still in out belly.

      That's right...You are required to have either 3 cups from the salad veggie list, or 2 cups + 1 cup from the other list, but it's not written in stone that you absolutely have to eat a 'salad' as such. Have a bunch of raw veggies with dip instead, so that you get a variety of nutrients and fiber. A lot of the veggies on the 'salad' list can be stir-fried or cooked as well, so there are many ways you can enjoy them.
      A greek salad is a yummy option too....so don't be caught in the trap that salad has to have lettuce in it. You're doing yourself a favour by expanding your veggie horizons.

        thanks for answering, that does clear up a couple things for me. I didnt even think about stir frying my veggies,thats a good idea. good news cause I'm sick of salad. 2big4mysize- the bacon bits are carb free,100% real bacon it says. I make sure I check the carbs on everything cause I'm paranoid. anyways thanks for the help guys,I truly do appreciate it.

          good for you. TPV bacon is carbfree too because the carbs are given for their chosen serving size Glad you checked.

          edited to add that didn't come out right I meant TPV bacons are listed as carb free cause their serving size is so small but for a cup they have lots of carbs. it just doesn't lok that way when you read their package.

            I love love love a salad when someone else makes it...lol...but I find them super tedious to make. Somehow though, cutting and chopping veggies for a stir fry doesn't bother me...I'm weird that way...so I've done a lot of that sort of thing.
            There are tons of options out there for us when it comes to our foods...have fun exploring them!
