  • how did i do

    Hi, I am new to this forum and I just started induction of Atkins...Here is my menu for today which is the 2nd day,
    Total food for the day:
    about 8 oz cheese (o carbs)
    6 oz ham
    mayo- with the ham and cheese about 5 tablespoons
    3 very small tomatoes
    soup with pork meat- one bowl
    Drinks- tea/no caffeine/0 calories/0 carbs
    Water
    I know this is probably a lot of calories, but everything is 0 carbs except for the tomatoes....Do you think that even tho the calories are a lot I will still lose some weight?????

    Be wary of the amount of cheese. ALthough it says 0 carbs, you should count about 1 carb per ounce. I was eating a lot of cheese and it was affecting my weight loss. I cut back on cheese and I noticed a difference.
    Re re starting this time for good with the support of my husband. He is doing this with me.

      You've gone over your daily allowance of cheese...you've eaten double the limit of 4 ounces.

      Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short)?
      If not, get yourself a copy ASAP and read it through. That's the book we follow on this web site.
      There are certain Rules you need to follow, and an Acceptable Foods list to choose from, plus a lot of other info about how the diet actually works.

      The best thing you can do is to educate yourself as much as possible by reading the source, then reading the stickies in the forums.
      You can get yourself a free account at www.fitday.com, and heres a link to a sticky to help you see what it can do for you

      You will be able to chart your foods there and see where you're at.

      Your menu, other than the cheese overload, looks decent but it looks WAY low on vegetables. We are required to have 3 cups of vegetables (from a specific list) a day.
      Atkins is not a 'no carb' diet..it's a high fat, low carb diet. Please get the book, read it and learn how to do it correctly.

      In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with eating along those lines while you get the book and read it. Staying away from starches and sugars is always a good thing for anybody.
      Once you have a handle on what it's all about you'll be sure to do very well.

        I need to add that we generally count 1 carb per ounce of cheese to be on the safe side, so in addition to the tomato, you had 8 carbs worth of cheese.

        Oops...saw that someone else already mentioned that....well, it bears repeating, so there ya go!

          I got the book and I read some of it......The reason why the menu is low on veggies is because I thought the lesser the carbs the better. I don't know if that's correct tho, I just assumed it. And I need about 20 pounds to lose..Right now i am about 160 pounds, 5'6" tall...I gained all this weight for about 3 months!!!! I was around 140 at thanksgiving...The thought that I keep gaining and gaining scares me...But I will post my menu again tomorrow I hope I do better I will definately not eat that much cheese ... Because right now i feel stuffed and I even feel like i've gained weight

            You need to eat at least 2 cups of veggies and if its just lettuce, 3 cups.

              I'm glad you've got the book!
              It's important that you give it a thorough read so you understand the reasoning behind the diet, so take the time to go through it again.
              I had to read the Chapter on Induction many many times before I had it straight in my head.
              The more you understand what you are doing, the better your chances of losing weight are, and I don't know about you but I want this weight gone asap!!

                Here is what I had today:
                2 cups of broccoli+mushrooms
                10 oz of ham
                8 oz chicken breast
                4 oz cheese
                mayo- 2-3 oz
                I also had some sugar free/carb free mints (that's what the label said!!) I hope they really are carb free....

                  You are doing much better!
                  Watch those mints, check out the type of artifical sugar in them. A.S. can bea probelm with digestion and also stall your weight loss.

                  Keep it up, you are doing well!

                  Also consider joiining up to Boot Camp when it's next held. I'm currently doing that and it's helping me keep on track for my induction (I've restarted induction)

                    Yep...much better job with the cheese today!
                    You are one cup short of veggies though.
                    Make sure you have it straight with which veggies are on the 3 cup list and the 1 cup list so you aren't going over your veggie limits. Also remember that mushrooms cook down quite a bit, and you have to measure your vegetables when they are raw, not cooked.
