  • soup... good or evil?

    Hi all...

got a little soup recipe Id like to have analyzed by the group.

    ingredients include:

    chicken breast

    baby bok choy

    shitake mushrooms

    snow peas

    shallots

    salt

    white pepper

    soy sauce

mostly broth from the ingredients, 1/3 cup of the above per serving.

would this recipe considered low carb ? (I omitted the noodles)

any input would be greatly appreciated

it will be lower carb but not sure if it is low enough carb for your needs.

put the ingredients in fitday with the amount you added and you can see. the soy sauce mayor may not be low carb depending on the added sugar for taste.

those mushrooms are higher carb of all the mushrooms out there with 18 net in a cup of fresh ones.

I pluged it into fitday and it seems that it has about 8g carbs per serving... now that seems really high to me. Still in the induction phase and I dont want to make something that will set me back. How accurate is fitday ?

(soup makes about 8 servings total so the ingredients in the soup are minimal. Soy sauce is non sweetend and there is only a tbsp for the entire recipe.)

Thank you for the input, I think Ill put it off for the time being.

Fitday is rather accurate if you do it right. Did you deduct the fiber and look at the net carbs?

        Shallots are quite carby, see

I just made something resembling your soup with duck stock, and I love bok choy

Have you read this about fitday?
            http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5235
It'll explain how to have a fiber number show up if it isn't showing up already.

Is this something you're making or getting from a restaurant?
I make a soup at home with low sodium chicken broth, whatever vegetables I have handy (broccoli, cauliflower, celery, regular mushrooms, bok choy...just go down the list and pick what appeals to you), some minced garlic and minced fresh ginger, and a splash of soy sauce.
I beat an egg, and let it cook in a teflon pan like a big thin pancake, let it cool, roll it up, slice it into thin 'noodles'. I put them in the bottom of the bowl, top with the soup and then sprinkle chopped green onions on the top.
            So good!

yep that was what I was saying you will need to decide it those net carbs in your soup are oaky of where you are in your Atkins. that looks great for OWL rung one too.

Glad you got a sugar free soy
