I will be starting my induction this saturday, January 28th 2006. I currently weigh 225 pounds and want to reach my goal of 190-180. I am a non-beef/pork eater - so no bacon or steaks. I have always maintained a healthy lifestyle, litte to no candy or butter. I have been thinking of this being my menu for the next 14 days. In the mornings I plan on waking up and having 2 eggs w/ some Chicken Breast, during my lunch time, I plan on eating Tyson Fajita Chicken w/ lows carbs and lots of protein 17g to be exact with Salad which includes 2 loosely packaged cups of lettuce and half a tomatoe which includes a low carb ranch dressing and I plan on having the same thing for Dinner as well. I am also going to be running about 4 miles outdoors everyday but Sunday. And I will have an occasional 2-3 bananas a day throughout the whole day. If you think I should add anything to my menu or take off - Please let me know ASAP

Its great that you decided to start Atkins! Looking over your planned menu the first thing I noticed is your lack of variety. I have been in the induction phase for 25 days and I could never eat the same thing for lunch and dinner day in and day out. If you look at the acceptable foods list you will see that there is way more than just chicken listed!! You need variety or take my word for it, you wont last long. Second is bananas. They are NOT acceptable during induction. If you don't have a book, read the stickys at the top of the threads for a copy of the acceptable food list and take it from there! Good luck!

Unfortunatly, this isn't a quick fix diet plan, it's a total life change to your way of eating. You get out what you put into it so it depends on how bad you want it. Keep reading the stickys and posts and you will find the foods that will work for you. Check out the recipe threads too. You might find some quick and easy recipes that you can find time to sqeeze in. It really does work!!

You're going to want to mix up your vegetables and have a wider variety than just lettuce and tomato...so you get more nutrients and fiber...trust me, you'll want the fiber in your diet.

Atkins can be as time consuming as you want it to be...its up to you. There are women on here who are wives/mothers, raising a family and working and they find the time to do a little prep ahead of time. If they can do it so can you. You have to choose your priorities.
It takes two seconds to break off a few pieces of broccoli or cauliflower and slice a bit of cucumber or pepper, throw it in a container and have that with some ranch dressing to dip it in. If you have to cook up some chicken, cook extra for lunches or snacks.

One important priority is to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short) so you get your facts from the source. The more you know, the better you'll do, right?

Once you have all the lists and rules straight in your head you'll be able to better understand why we're telling you you can't have bananas. It all has to do with the effect they (and other foods) have on your blood sugars.

We want you to do well...we know what works...with a little organization it can work for you too!

this is a life change for me ... this is not a once in a while kinda thing but im going abroad to study so i can't have this carb friendly diet, i checked to in Lublin, Poland and they are way behind their time, so once i lose the desired amount i want to have a strict low calorie diet with 1 hr of cardio excercise everyday and at the moment i am already on a low calorie diet and i am doing well but i want to boost my results - i doubt i can do wrong with going on the atkins diet

this is kinda nitpicky, but if you have the salad and tomato for both lunch and and dinner you'll be a cup over on your veggies before you even consider the tomato.

Are you sure you will have a major problem with controlled carb eating in poland? I mean, I am sure they have meat and veggies and sugar substitute for starters.

I am just curious about what kind of info you are going by?

I have been to eastern europe and I can assure you that you will not have a problem doing atkins. There is ton of meat and cheese to choose from. I had a hard time finding fresh veggies but you can always eat frozen ones. And of course they have eggs and poultry--poland should not pose any problems if you are dedicated!!! SAUSAGE TOO--

Hello! I am a wife, mother, FT student and work PT. I understand how time consuming it can be to eat right sometimes, but I assure you it CAN be done IF you want it bad enough. It may seem overwhelming at first, but if you stick with it, you'll find ways to make it easier. I find "15 minute Low Carb Recipes" by Dana Carpender very helpful when you don't have much time to spare.

I agree that you should read DANDR to learn how and why this WOE works and make sure that it's right for you. If you're looking at this as a way to quickly lose the weight, then go back to low-cal, you might want to reconsider. This is a great way to eat and after you start Atkins, you won't want to go back to eating that tasteless low-cal food!!

Our nanny is from Poland, and they have PLENTY of things you can eat on Atkins. I live in Germany and have no issues whatsoever. You will do great in Poland... fresh meats and veggies are there for you.

If you are doing induction you can have 2 cups of loosely packed greens and up to 1 cup of tomatoes per day. So if you split them up, you can have salads at both meals, just no other veggies for the day. Other rungs of OWL allow you to add more carbs so it's less of a problem.

                            So true, tigger...
I am sure one reason people say 'once you stop Atkins you will pile the pounds back on' is because people continue to eat all the nice foods we are able to eat plus add the buns/bread/pasta/spuds/sugar to their menus!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                              Re: 1st Timer

If a country has meat, vegetables and dairy, you can do Atkins. It's pretty simple.

As others have told you, you need to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short) so you fully understand how to do the diet and why the diet works..
Atkins is a high fat diet, and we don't count calories.
If you eat correctly from the Acceptable Foods list in DANDR, and according to the Rules, you will pretty much be right where you need to be when it comes to your fat/protein/carb intake.
You can plug your foods into www.fitday.com to see where you are with your numbers...and heres a link to help you with it:
                              http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5235
Atkins is a wonderful plan and it works beautifully if you understand how and why it works and if you do it correctly.

To sum up, Atkins can be done anywhere anytime, if you know what you are doing...and the most important thing is to learn how to do it correctly from the source, which is DANDR.
