    Re: My menu

"LOTS of work"...boy, you got that right...lol

Ok..you are doing a low carb thing of your own invention, so all I can say about it is ...well..its better than the way a lot of people eat but it's certainly not Atkins.

Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short)?
If not, get a copy and read it...its what we follow at this site.
It's a diet with a proven track record and if you follow the Rules of Induction and eat correctly from the Acceptable Foods list, you'll do great!
If you have read it, I think it's best that you read it again and refresh yourself. It's laid out pretty clearly in the Chapter on Induction.

If you continue to skip breakfast, avoid veggies and generally just do your own thing, there's no knowing what can happen in terms of weight loss, or what effect it will have on your health........can you say 'constipation'?

We want to help you but you have to do your part..and that involves reading the book, learning why you don't want to skip breakfast and working on thinking differently about food so you are open to learning how eating can help you lose weight.

      Re: My menu

      I did read the book.
Well I don't eat breakfast because:
      1. I don't have time.
      2. I just don't have the stomach for it. I feel if I eat anything that early I will throw-up.
      3. I have to wait till about 1:15 to eat lunch. No, I can't take breakfast with me, no food allowed in the classroom. The only time I have to eat it is early in the morning(yuck).

Veggies: Well yes this is my fault, but really my diet is not that far off from the book. The only thing I eat rarely of is veggies(I know this is a BIG part, but come on guys give me a break I am working on it. It would have been worse if I would have done nothing about it.)

Oh and by the way, my menu of that day is typical but by the number of servings and type of food only. I don't eat chicken or pork everyday.

      Thank
      James

I think I need to get the new version of the book because the one I have is so disorganized and poorly written. I saw a number of typos.

          Re: My menu

          You have two choices here

Doing it your way...by skipping meals and not making time to change your habits.

Or doing it according to the book and getting some good results PLUS knowing you are helping your body by eating at regular intervals and nourishing it properly with a variety of vegetables.

          It's really up to you.

I was never a breakfast eater because it made me gag. I started small, with a cold boiled egg, or leftover whatever from the night before...a few bites is all you need for your metabolism to get rolling and start burning that fat.

The book explains about blood sugar levels and the importance in keeping them on an even keel ( Page 47, Chapter 5 in DANDR.)

There are women on this board that have children plus a job plus a house to keep together and they manage to find the time to eat breakfast, so sorry...not having time doesn't really wash. If you have to walk from the house to the bus stop, or to the car and then ride to school, then there's your time to eat. That's all it takes.

If you aren't eating much veggies then you are eating 'far off the book'.

Sorry to sound so hard-***, James...but change can only come about when a person is willing to make that change. What you need to do is not so huge...pretty much everybody else on the board has made these kinds of changes...that's how we lost the weight we did. Dr. Atkins knew what he was talking about when he wrote the diet, and if you follow it as it is written, you'll do well....most men do amazingly well on Atkins. But you have to be willing to face this maturely and make the changes necessary.

I want you to do good!

            Re: My menu

Actually yeah the diet works very well, I have already lost 50 pounds. Thank you for your suggestions but then again you don't have to be all though about it. (Well you think you do, but I find it a little rude, although I know that is not your intention.)
I really do have a weird schedule. Wake up at 5:50 come back home at 6:00 go to sleep at 12 or 1.(Go to sleep earlier now). My only alternative would have to be to make breakfast in the afternoon and take it in the morning.

I do eat some vegetables just not a lot. I am still in induction, and besides my daily multivitamin, I make sure to eat foods with fiber every now and then to avoid constipation.....No I have not been constipated since the start of this diet,

Again, thank you for your suggestions, I will make the changes I see necessary.

Sorry if you feel I'm being rude, I'm just trying to help as best I can and sometimes it comes out a little 'tough love'ish.
All the best to you with your weight loss.

                ((((Moochie)))))

                Hi James

Moochie isn't being rude, she's giving it to you straight. She's right, you *do* have time, you just have to take advantage of it.

No one on this site got fat eating low-glycemic veggies and no one wound up here because they had any great love of veggies. I would even dare say that most of us started out here with extreme avoidance issues with vegetables or defined veggies as "french fries and corn on the cob". In the illustrious words of the obnoxious Dr. Phill, "How's that workin' for ya?"

"If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you got."
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results."

I'm sure you've heard all this stuff before, but the changes will come when you make them.

If you don't want straight-forward, no BS advice, asking for a menu review here is probably a bad idea. LOL

If you want straight forward, no BS advice and support- this is the place to be.

Congrats on your losses so far

                  Re: My menu

I don't take what he said as rude, but anything in type instead of spoken can be taken that way. My interpretation of what he said is that you have a choice, you can either struggle for a much longer period of time "cheating" a bit, or stick strickly to it, and get your results quicker. I feel other diets would have worked for me if I was willing to stick strickly to them for a very long time, but I wasn't. The big advantage, to me, is that you see results very quickly, and that gives the motivation to to adhere to the maintenance portion. I speak from my own trial and error, but I believe in the saying " the best lesson is a bought lesson", and you are buying the lesson by struggling with your weight.
I only had 30 pounds I wanted to lose, but more came off the first two weeks than I had been able to get off in 6 months watching what I ate with other diets, and being hungry. The difference I was able to see, everyone else was able to see, and for the first time I caught girls checking me out when I walked into a room. Luckily I had my best friend to start me on this, and we both lost. We had a ball from our new found look. Better looking, and a smile every day is appealing. That kept me motivated, and I weigh the same as I did after I lost the weight.

I know she did not mean it to be rude. I mentioned that in my post. I took her advice.
