  • Mayonnaise Frustration

My major delimma is that I don't like Mayo! I do like Miracle Whip, but it is 2 carbs/2 Tablespoons, and DANDR says that dressings should by 1 carb/Tblsp.

Here is my compromise: I mix 1 Tblsp. Mayo with 1 Tblsp. Miracle Whip. That way it averages to 1 carb/Tblsp. I think this is alright but I wanted to make sure. I've also included a menu below, since you all are so knowledgable, it's good to get your input!

    Breakfast: Total: 2.2 carbs
    - 2 Eggs Scrambled (1.2)
    - 1 Tblsp. Mayo (0)
    - 1 Tblsp. Miracle Whip (1)

    Lunch: Total: 4.2 carbs
    - 2 Eggs Hard Boiled (1.2)
    - 1 Tblsp. Mayo (0)
    - 1 Tblsp. Miracle Whip (1)
    - 8 Green Olives (2)

    Snack: Total 3.5 carbs
    - 1/2 cup Green Pepper (3.5)

    Dinner: Total: 7 carbs
    - 1 1/2 cup Mushrooms fried w/ butter & garlic (3)
    - Steak! seasoned w/ salt/pepper (0)
    - 1 cup Green Beans (4)

TOTAL FOR THE DAY: 16.9 CARBS
TOTAL WATER FOR THE DAY: 100 fl. oz

If you haven't noticed I love eggs. I'm keeping the egg farmers in business while I'm on induction.
    Best Wishes!

    Re: Mayonnaise Frustration

many of us didn't like the acceptable foods when we started but we made the change because we wanted a new way of eating that was healthier. You are going to be surprized how much your food likes and dislikes change when your tongue isn't bombarded with sugar all day long. I was raise on Miricle whip and we just called it mayo in my house. No bottles of it here now though. you can do it. just give it up and control the food.

As for your menu you want to have some veggie carbs some protein and some fat at each meal so you don't spike your blood sugar with a large bolus of carbs at one meal. it may not make sence to you now but when you get to OWL and add back carbs it will. practice fueling up right every time you eat and your body will run smoothly all day. Happy low carbing.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'll push myself to try and stop the Miracle Whip habit, and eating veggies at every meal is now the plan! Thanks!

Do you like Ranch dressing or mustard? Just a thought for variety if you're trying to make changes with life without Miracle Whip (that stuff is just yuck! Okay, that's my opinion. lol.)

            Re: Mayonnaise Frustration

So I just had lunch, making egg salad with just a bit of miracle whip (>1 tblsp) and mostly mayonnaise. I was discouraged at first, it didn't taste as sweet as usual of course, and I posted in my journal to vent. Then I was sitting and reading for an hour or so, and I got this rush of energy. I haven't felt so energetic since I restarted a week ago. I don't know if it's all in my head or if my body is telling me that I did something right, but it's motivated me to completely cut out the "evil Whip" tomorrow. <-- funny

Thanks to all of you for the great advice! Billions of to you all!

I'm so happy to read that you're giving up the habit! Before I got to the end of the thread I looked up the ingredients and was preparing a lecture about reading labels. hehe But BRAVO on coming to the right conclusion yourself!

INGREDIENTS: Water, Soybean Oil, Vinegar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Modified Food Starch, Salt, Eggs, Egg Yolks, Mustard Flour, Artificial Color, Potassium Sorbate as A Preservative, Paprika, Spice, Natural Flavor, Dried Garlic.
Female / Currently on Extended Induction (again), begun 6/2/08.

I did Extended Induction from 1/3 to 5/9 (2006) and lost 55 pounds, so I know I can do it again!

              The reason I quit...

Thank you so much LookingForward for going through all that trouble. I know now what an idiot I was being! I've already started to reread DANDR today! It's so nice to have all this healthy encouragement and advice!

Although I am glad I adverted "the lecture"!!!

                      Re: Mayonnaise Frustration

Yes, I broke my miracle whip habit with adding splenda to mayonnaise at first, then I added mustard to that mix to make lc honey mustard. After a while, my tastebuds adjusted to this WoE enough that I just stopped putting splenda in it. I still like a mayo/mustard blend any day of the week though.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
