  • Day 1 of Induction - The food I ate :)

    Day 1 09/06/2006 Wednesday

Weight myself exactly in at 160.5 lbs

Hit the gym for an hour and twenty minutes

    Breakfast 9:00AM

Two eggs, scrambled. Added some Sharp Cheddar Cheese and a healthy tablespoon of sour cream.

    Lunch 2:00PM

Cucumber Salad, mixed with mayo and some sour cream and balsamic vinegar, white vinegar and salt and pepper. Tastes great as long as you give it some time in the fridge so the juices run together, about 4 hours

    Dinner 6:00PM

About 5 Strips of ready made Tyson plain Chicken Fajita Strips. Sautéed some mushrooms in hot pepper olive oil added the chicken and then some cumin and garlic powder. I'm not a great cook, but it was edible.

Drank 2 quarts of water and snuck in a diet caffeine free Pepsi.

have your read DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION? Thant is the version of his book we use as our guide. Balamic vinegar isn't allowed in induction nor would bagged coleslaw since carrots aren't allowed. induction also has 3 cups of the acceptable veggies every day too which you are missing.

Your lunch on day one of cucumber salad... did this have some protein in it?

Remeber Atkins is about feeding your hunger so if you are hungry eat some of the acceptable foods proteins/fats/veggie carbs since with stable blood sugars and feeding your body the high fat moderate protein low carbs Atkins plan you will be burning fat as your primary fuels 24/7

great job on doing the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins.

      happy low carbing.

Re: Day 1 of Induction - The food I ate

I've always tried life not to eat after 7PM or so, I just feel better in the mornings...this is my rule and not Atkins. As for Day 1 ,cucumber salad day, I did have chicken for dinner (I would call that protein) along with the eggs in the morning.

As for not allowing balsamic vinegar, I just added 1/2 a teaspoon, which is not even a whole 1.5 g of carbs. All in all I think I kept the carb count way under 19 g. I should have mentioned it was broccoli slaw that I mixed this into and a few strips of carrots in 1/2 cup of slaw isn't really hitting any high carb count.

Dosen't atkins say "up to 3 cups a day" for the vegtables??

All in all, I feel fine and satisfied at the end of my meals. This menu works for me.

It isnt always about the carbs, so just a little bit can still cause slowness or stalls etc. Also watch your salt intake as it will make you retain fluids.

If you arent open to feedback and this menu 'works' for you; then forgive the question of why post it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm open to feedback, but that dosen't mean that I have to agree with everything that everyone say. Sure there are foods that are set in stone on the induction plan, they either are or they aren't on the induction food list. And if I choose to a few strips of carrots in a slaw and have a half a teaspoon of balasmic vinegar, I will.

I choose to start Atkins and do it my way and it's working for ME. Even if I'm not doing induction down to a science, I'm still eating healthy and have a positive attitude towards my health and lifestyle. I wish you good luck with your weight loss!

Re: Day 1 of Induction - The food I ate

I sort of feel the same way. I did the AD for quite a while last year. I went from about 245 to 185. During that time about the only veggie I ate was romaine lettuce. On or off the AD I don't eat much in the way of veggies - I just plain don't like them. I take a quality multi-vitamin (Vitamin World - Green Source) 3x per day. I feel fine and I rarely get sick.

I went off the AD in February and went on a cruise followed by a Super Bowl party. In only 3 weeks I was back to 200. I dieted (not AD) and got back to 185 in a few months. Since then I've slowly went back to 200 and want to lose it quick so I'm doing the AD again. Same way as before - protein and fats but few veggies.

Breakfast is usually egg beaters with some cheese and sometimes bacon, sausage, or ham. Lunch is either a burger w/cheese (no bun) or a grilled chicken caesar salad (no croutons) with low carb (1g) ranch dressing. Dinner is usually albacore tuna fish with some ranch or alfreado dressing, grilled or roasted chicken (no breading or sweat marinade/sauce). I dip it in a low carb (1g) ranch or bleu cheese sometimes. For snacks I eat a lower carb beef jerky or handful of peanuts or some sunflower seeds. I drink unsweet green, white, or regular tea, diet sodas, and some (very little) plain water.

I know that's not exactly 'by the book' but it works for me, I feel fine, and I'm really not hungry or miserable.

Re: Day 1 of Induction - The food I ate

I think your menu looks fairly good, Those above are just offering suggestions based on what are common stallers on Atkins as well as what is on the Acceptable Foods list.

I once thought I could tweak the plan a bit for my own tastes too. But I kept stalling and didn't know why. Sure enough, I went back and reviewed my menu, took out the known stallers that those here often mentioned, and voila, began losing again.

I would advise watching the diet soda if it contains Aspartame in it. That often stalls people.

                    Good luck!
