  • Anything wrong with my menu?

    I posted on another thread about being on day 6 of Atkins, feeling yucky and not having lost any weight. A poster suggested I post my menu here.

    Yesterday:
    Coffee with Splenda
    1 cup chicken vegetable soup (water, chicken, boullion, celery, green beans, broccoli, spices)
    Lettuce salad with bacon, turkey, colby jack and ranch.
    1 cup chicken vegetable soup
    Roasted chicken, broccoli with italian dressing and parmesan.
    1 slice of cheesecake (cream cheese, splenda, egg, vanilla extract, lemon juice)
    Diet Coke

    ( I know caffeine is a no-no in the book because it increases cravings. Can it actually prohibit weight loss?)

    Wednesday:
    Same as above except instead of Roasted Chicken and broccoli for dinner, I had cabbage fried in butter and ham with 2 slices of swiss melted on top.

    Tuesday:
    Same as above except dinner was fried cabbage, shrimp and alfredo sauce. And instead of the cheesecake (which I made so I could have a treat with my twins' birthday cake on Wednesday), I had another bowl of soup.

    Monday:
    Same as above except dinner was grilled chicken and broccoli with colby jack.

    Sunday:
    Same as above except dinner was bacon, eggs, and cottage cheese.

    Saturday:
    Same as above except dinner was cheeseburgers and fried cabbage.

    Lose the Diet Coke and coffee for at least a week and see what happens.

      Def no coffee...What's up with the Ranch? Are you making that yourself...I thought dressing was a big no no

        Ranch dressing is perfectly fine.

        The only thing I can see that might be a problem, and it might not be is that sometimes boullion may have a lot of sodium.

        Are you drinking AT MINIMUM 64 ounces of water? If I don't drink near 100 ounces of water a day I have problems. Your body NEEDS water and if you don't drink it, it will store water. Add sodium to your foods and through soda pop and you just compound your fluid retention problem which will show up as either NO loss or weight GAIN on the scale.

        Wanna know the secret to weight loss????

          You know, Joy, I bet you're right. I've been trying to drink more water, but I don't think it's been 64 ounces, and I know I'm getting a LOT of sodium. I'll start keep track of ounces, and try for 100+, and see if that doesn't help. I feel kind of silly for not thinking of this on my own.

            Give it a try over the next few days. In the beginning I had to FORCE myself to drink it. Now I can't stop drinking it.

              One thing to remember about science... water drives the fat burning process. Your body will stop when the water is unavailable to use. Think of water as the 'fuel' that lets it burn fat once you are in ketosis.


              drink, drink, drink. I've started drinking out of a quart mason jar. One glassful with each meal.

                I use a pint glass to drink water. I am a fast drinker so I just chug a full pint glass whenever I feel the urge. I usually am up to 84 ounces by noon. The only side effect from all this water is all the peeing. Got to plan my day around where the bathrooms are...lol

                  Also, are you making your own soup? If so, the only thing to watch is the boullion...it has tons of sodium and also may contain hidden carbs.

                  The water is essential. I drink well over a gallon per day and it makes me feel great.

                    Not to be a nitpicker, but you're eating cheesecake everyday on induction? This has splenda...how much splenda per serving? Is it a REAL cheesecake recipe (like a cheesecake you make in an oven or fridge) or an individual serving thing? You're also having splenda with coffee (which has carbs) and Diet Coke has splenda. You are only allowed 3 servings per day, and I'm guessing your intake is MUCH higher. Also, the vanilla you used to make the cheesecake...usually vanilla is made with vanilla extract and corn syrup. Check your labels on that one...

                    And like the others said, drink your water!!! You'll begin to crave it, no joke! Try it with a slice of lemon, it is delicious.

                      I would try to do an induction without caffeine/splenda.

                      Are you exercising? I slack off in this department and when I do I can tell it really slows weight loss.

                        Just an update -- I've lost 3 pounds since Friday morning! So I really do think I was retaining water and a bit constipated. (TMI?). I'm officially sold on drinking lots of water!

                        Thanks so much for the other suggestions. If I start to stall, I'll certainly lower or eliminate caffeine and Splenda, but I'm not ready to give them up if I don't have to. Does that make me weak?
