  • Please review my menu :)

I'll be starting Atkins tomorrow for the first time. I've been reading a lot on this forum, I finally got the book and I'm ready to try it.

    Breakfast
Omellete made with one or two eggs (depending on how hungry I am) and a tablespoon of canola oil.

    Lunch
A piece of string cheese (if hungry).

    Dinner
Chicken soup with 1/4 cup induction approved mixed frozen veggies dumped in (soup's nothing more than water with a low sodium bouillion cube, and about two tablespoons of shredded cooked chicken and spices).

I realize I'm not consuming enough veggies. In all honesty, I'm not much of an eater. Especially when I have eggs in the morning, I'm full throughout the day. I probably couldn't stomach anymore. The reason I gained so much weight in the first place was due to inactivity and consuming nothing but processed, sugary stuff.

Since I'm a newb, I'd be so happy if you could tell me what I'm eating during induction is perfectly legal. Thanks

Okay, I answered you on the other forum, but I'll try to help here, too. Oh, and just tell me to shut up if you want to.

First of all, Look at the times you are eating, if you aren't much of an eater, you may want to throw in a snack or two since your meals are smaller. You would benefit throwing in some meat in the morning, and remember anything goes for breakfast...So if eggs do you in for the day, try some protien left over from the night before. Maybe throw in some green crisp veggies and sugar-free ranch for a snack...Also, I don't know how you feel about eggs, but they can get old after a bit, I find anyway, so try making them different ways, maybe doing a chicken and broccoli omlet or steak and mushroom...

    Hope I have helped!

      Hi there Creampuff!

Yeah, it looks to me like you might not be eating enough food. You also need to eat your veggies (like mom said). There are 3 cups of veggies which will provide you with most of your carbs. That would be 3 cups of salad veggies (from the induction list) or 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of the other veggies on the list. I'd recommend the latter most of the time as it provides you with more nutrients than most salad veggies.

Ketosis will drop your appetite, so make sure you eat at least every 6 hours while you're awake. Have you looked into fitday.com?

Your food choices are good! I just feel you might need more food.

I'm with Higgies - I think you should definately eat more. I'd have salad (2 cups and rather than lettuce, raw spinach, watercress or arugula give more nutrients and taste nicer) with that cheese string and throw in some avocado and mayo to up the fat content.

For dinner I'd have the whole cup of heavy veg allowed - you need the nutrients and to ensure that constipation doesn't occur (which can be an inducation problem for some).

Even though you don't feel like a big eater it is worth looking on fitday and working out your basal, lifestyle and exercise calories burnt (is straightforward on the site) and making sure you are eating at least enough calories to be no more than 500 below the amount you burn per day. You can also make sure you're getting the right percentages of carbs, fat and protein. You may need to add fat as dressing, butter or mayo in veg. It seems scary at first but you need the fat to get into ketosis.
