  • Too Much Protein - Need Fat

Hello.... My weight loss has virtually come to a stand-still - I'm in my 6th week of Atkins.

Lately, FitDay has been showing me I am having more protein than I should. I need to have more fat, and wonder which foods are best for that? Today so far, I have added 1 tblspn butter to my omelette, and had 2 coffees with a little extra cream. Also, I don't know why cream is limited if we are supposed to eat a lot of fat.

Anyway, if anyone knows of more fatty food, rather than protein, please let me know.

    Thankyou

Mayo is good, because it only takes a little to push your fat up. Also olive oil (nice and healthy if eaten uncooked).

Bear in mind that mini stalls and standstills are common when dieting. Sometimes the body just needs time to catch up... or to recognise that you are "serious" about this new way of eating. If you haven't already seen it, you might find Moochiecat's piece interesting: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard....read.php?t=5090

Well, my fat intake is TOO much for today, according to FitDay - 71% fat... 25% protein... 4% carbs. I guess it was the polish pork sausage that I don't usually have and the extra cream (but it was only 2 oz).

The calories were quite high altogether... 1552. Is that getting too high? I am only 5' 2", weigh 167 lbs and have 35 to lose, if that has any bearing on what the calorie intake should be. I'm also a slow loser IMO.

Thanku to anyone who can clarify the above

I've found a good way to even it out when the fat is too high to have some eggs - but just the whites. All the fat in an egg is in the yolk, so scrambling some whites or eating them hard boiled is a great way to get some protein and even out the percentages.

I wouldn't mess with eggs! They are a perfect food. By themselves, their ratios are almost 65%/5%/30%. Certain foods, like cured meats, are mostly fat, NOT protein, and will throw off your percentages.

Aussie, you need to eat at least 1200 calories a day, and ideally you should be eating close to your BMR.

It was just a suggestion to balance her percentages for the one day when she said her fat was too high.

I wouldn't stress about the percentages too much, Dr A never did. Just eat according to the rules and according to your hunger. Stop when you're satisfied. If you do that, you should be fine.

Re: Too Much Protein - Need Fat

There is an interesting sticky thread about how much fat to eat and how to 'tweak' your menus in the 14-day induction forum http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=17102
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Too Much Protein - Need Fat

BMR=basal metabolic rate. It's basically how many calories your body uses keeping itself functioning, or how many calories you would burn lying in bed all day.

Yes, don't stress too much about the percentages. Some days you may be under, some days you might be over, but it will average out. If you are really noticing that you are super high in protein, then just do what you are doing now; add a little olive oil to something or some butter, etc.

Re: Too Much Protein - Need Fat

Thanks for that The last couple of days have been better re fat, I think due to a bit of extra cream and polish pork sausage.

Today, I am extremely upset about a possible medical condition (nothing to do with Atkins) but it's getting on for 1 p.m. and I've eaten nothing yet. To avoid starvation weight gain, I will HAVE to eat, for sure.

Even in Maintenance for me...some days I'm like 55%, some days 72%...so it can vary. I think it's a good ida to have that variety. Keeps the body guessing, ya know?

Well, I went overboard today with fat 75%, protein 21%, and carbs 5% !! By the way, I don't know how that adds up to 100% lol !

Extra exercising coming up tomorrow anyway, as only 4 days till my daughter's wedding!!

I've lost 7 kgs in 5 and a half weeks on Atkins, and am the lowest weight I have been in probably 10 years! My tummy is even flat again, and I can see things I haven't seen in quite a while! (like my feet lol)
