  • [Please review] - My meal plan for my first time on Atkins

I plan to start Atkins for the first time ever on Monday . I was wondering if someone could review my meal plan (I follwed teh book, but I want to double check). I wasn't too sure about the meats that I could eat (different brands and such) so I went with this:

    Breakfast
-2 boiled eggs (throw it in a pot of boiling water, no salt, condiments or anything)
    -Multivitamin (What kind?)
    -3 8oz bottles of water

    Lunch
-2 cups of salad (regular lettuce is acceptable right?)
-1 cup of brocolli (cooked, just bioled in a pot)
    -Multivitamin
    -3 8oz bottles of water

    Dinner
    ?????
Can someone suggest something? I'm not much of a cook hence why I picked meals that require no cooking really....

Or maybe I can split the servings for lunch in 2

If someone suggests something, can you suggest a place to get it from (like walmart) and a brand? Thanks

you need some protein in your lunch time meal

I found the Atkins multivitamins the best but i know people use others

dont throw your water all in at the mealtimes, sip it throughout the day

how about adding tuna or something to your salad at the lunch, save your "1-cup veggie" (broccolli) to your evening meal and having it with steak or chicken or something?

dont feel the veggies just hafta be veggies, theres alsorts of induction friendly recipes in the recipe section (most are very simple cos i cant cook either!) a nice cheese sauce one would be good for over your broccolli!

remember not to go more than 5 waking hours between foods, even if it is only a snack!

as for your meats and the brands, processed ones arent the way to go, buy yourself a joint - you can freeze some to be used later, chicken wings (without sauce) is always a good one for snacks, but most of all, read the labels, if its got carbs or sugars, dont eat it!!

Also make sure you are using fat in your meals. This is not a low-fat plan. Feel free to use plenty of salad dressing and butter, eat the skin off your chicken, eat steaks, use oil in your cooking, etc.

And for breakfast - do you think two boiled eggs will fill you up? If you're not really a breakfast eater, it probably will. But if you wake up hungry and you are typically used to a full breakfast, then it might not. I'd take a snack along to work just in case it's not enough to tide you over till lunch time -celery and cream cheese, pepperoni, string cheese. Nothing's worse than being hungry, having no legal snacks available, and then one of your co-workers walks in with a bag of doughnuts or something.

You are allowed salt, mayo, and mustard.

Best of luck to you! Atkins really does work! Feel free to ask lots more questions - the people on this board are very knowledgable and helpful.

Congrats on your decision to start living the "Atkins" way....hey did I write a commercial?
          LOL.....
That is great that you are getting everything planned out in advance....definitely have snacks and stuff on hand and take some to work with you.....there are some great ideas/recipes/things you wouldn't think of on the induction recipe list...
I've heard ppl say sometimes when you don't have any variety it gets harder to stick with it....so hey even though you don't like cooking....there are some really simply things you can make - If you like grilling out...grill a bunch of burgers one night or hey cook them in the oven, whatever - you can freeze and have them for a fast heat up and serve meat....same with chicken breast.....I love to grill mine with butter and a tsp of lemon juice - sprinkle cheese over it and let it melt when they are almost done....and when I have the extra carb allowance top it with avacado....YUMMY!!
Stick around you will get good suggestions ideas...
          Don't forget your veggies
          Hugs,

attek, does that mean I can use oils when cooking? Like vegetable oils when making scrambled eggs?

Also, one thing I didn't get while researching, is if I can eat American cheese. Itr listed a number of cheeses, but I never saw anything about American specifically.

bradybunchmom, what kind of chicken breast do you eat? What brand and where do you get it from? The biggest worry I had was not having any CHICKEN. I can't go a day without chicken :P

Thanks for the reply everyone, I can't wait!

Re: [Please review] - My meal plan for my first time on Atkins

Use olive oil for frying. I tend to like butter or bacon grease for frying my eggs. You want REAL butter, NOT margarine.

Get the full-fat Ranch or blue cheese dressing--not the stuff that says "Lite".

Get a big pack of chicken and cook it up: grill, roast, bake, whatever you like and have it in the fridge for quick grab and go.

Boil a bunch of eggs for quick grab and go. If you like egg salad--mix the boiled eggs up with some mayo..yum! Mayonnaise--NOT miracle whip.

American Cheese is fine, but not "cheese product". You want the real stuff--preferably from the deli. American, swiss, cheddar, provolone, havarti, monterey jack, cream cheese are all allowed. Gouda, Muenster...etc.

NOT ricotta cheese or cottage cheese though.

As for meats, chicken (skin on), beef, pork, fish, shellfish, whatever floats your boat.

If you cook your meat in advance on the weekend, then you've got lots of stuff to throw together during the week.

Pepperoni and cream cheese make a great snack.

Thanks ValidRogue. I have found suitable brands of oils and meat to use Also, when you say meat you mean RAW meat? Or do you mean the precooked strips/breasts that you heat up and serve? Should I be using raw meat and cooking that?

I start Monday and can't wait!

Raw meat is the best way ..cook it yourself..so u know what is going in it. But if u dont like to cook...how bout buying one of those roast chickens from the grocery store..eat it with a side of veggies and herb butter (or melted cheese or mayo or whatever u like). Sautee some raw or precooked shrimp with butter and garlic..and serve over chopped veggies.. YUM. Its really very easy to eat this way..and u can eat like a king.
For breakfast, i love omelets with ham and cheese..or mushrooms and onions..or a million other ways. good luck.

Re: [Please review] - My meal plan for my first time on Atkins

Just like everyone here said....EAT!! This is not low-fat, low calorie. Eat until you satisfy your hunger, and watch your carbs. Not eating enough can have almost as bad an effect as not eating.

The only other thing I noticed is that you seem to have all your veggies at one meal. Try spreading them out when you can.

I used Centum Silver (or generic equiv) as a multi-vitamin. This is because it tends to have no iron in it, which is what we want.

Otherwise, great job...best of luck, and keep us updated!

Oh, to mix things up and keep it interesting, check out Linda's Low Carb Recipes Site. I don't have the link at the moment, but just google that. My favorite site.

I'm just lurking to get ideas, and to see whether i'm getting my food intake right and i'm very happy that i came across the question about the multi vitamin........Y does it help not to have iron in the vitamin?

Because we get plenty of iron from the foods we eat (red meat, etc) that added iron can sometimes be problematic.
