I get the carb count for induction. But , how many calories would be to much each day. I wasn't taking in enough calaries I was told in the beginning of my induction ( THIS TIME AROUND ) so I brought them up. How many is to many?

    Re: Calories

If I remember correctly, Dr. Atkins said to not concern yourself with too many calories while on induction. I have no idea where my book is, But I KNOW that someone who knows for sure will comment! but I think I am right....I never once counted calories.

From DANDR Chapter 11, Section titled 'A Frequently Asked Question (or two)'
      Quote:
There is no need to count calories. The Atkins Nutritional Approach counts grams of carbohydrates instead of calories. At the beginning of Induction you are allowed 20 grams of carbohydrates, gradually adding them in 5-gram increments as you progress from Ongoing Weight Loss to PreMaintenance, and finally to the Lifetime Maintenance phase of Atkins.
      and Quote:
Research has shown that on a controlled carbohydrate program, more calories are burned than in a low-fat/high-carb diet, so there is a certain metabolic advantage to the controlled carb approach. But understand that this does not give you a license to gorge.

So concentrate on eating the right foods until you are not hungry and you will do fine

        Re: Calories

Thanks! I'm good to go then. Been keeping it right at 20 grams of carbs. I was just concerned about to many calories. I didn't want it to slow down the excellent weight loss i've been having. I definately haven't been gorging myself. Not hungry! I realize it's not about counting calories. Was just wondering if there was such a thing in this woe. You know , if it would slow me down. I was happy at 800 calaries, but was told to bring them up. Thanks again for the info.

          Re: Calories

800 calories?! Sherri, as Disco said, don't count your calories. However, if you need to think of one thing it's eating too little. Your Fitday says your Basal Metabolic Rate is 1900 calories. You should be eat at least this many calories.

If you feel like you can't eat that much, try adding things like olive oil, mayo, and butter to things. Using these can increase your fat and acalories in an easy way.

          Good luck!
