  • OWL day 1 menu

So I didn't know if I should post this in OWL or over here. Anyway, I'd like some feedback on my first day of OWL menu. My new veggie that I did not have on induction is cabbage. I introduced it today..

Here's the menu copied from my journal entry excuse any nonsense.

So my breakfast was bad, coffee and string cheese. My lunch consisted of a roma tomato, 1/4 cucumber, a cold small chicken leg and 2 raw cabbage leaves.

Then my dinner was slightly changed. I ended up with hamburger meat with onion and bell pepper and the taco seasoning (1/4 pk 4g whole pack) fried cabbage with bacon butter and onion and a tomato and cucumber salad in 2 tbs italian. Either way I made it! Here's my count. The calories could be higher but whatever. Nice job on day one I hope.

    Total Calories: 1693
    Fat:136g
    Carbs: 25g
    Fiber:5
    Protein 91 g

    Water intake 120 oz
QUESTION: The fiber brought my net carbs down to 20 do I need to snack tonight at 5 more grams?
    My ratios:
    Fat: 73%
    Carbs: 5%
    Protein 22%

    Re: OWL day 1 menu

If you regularly ate lower than 20g on induction (for example, you usually ate 15g) then 20g is fine. The point is NOT to be at such-and-such number of carbs at a certain rung, but that you add carbs in 5g increments. I usually only ate 15 or 16g of carbs on induction (just because of the veggies I liked to eat) and so it was only during Rung 1 of OWL that I actually got to 20g!

Next week I would suggest staying on the veggie rung, but adding another 5g of carbs. You can either eat MORE veggies, or eat higher carb veggies (like spaghetti squash, zucchini, pumpkin, tomatoes, etc.) to get to that amount each day.

I'm glad to see a variety of veggies! Good job on day one!

Hey Jules! Thanks so much for your answer. I am really looking forward to adding pumpkin next week! Would I stay at 25 or do I move up to 30g on the 2nd week of rung one?

If you were usually eating 15g on induction, by adding 5g, you will be eating 20g daily this week, and 25g daily next week.

If you were usually eating 20g on induction, by adding 5g, you will be eating 25g daily this week, and 30g daily next week.

You also have the option to take things slower. So, if you want to stay at 25g for two weeks, then move up (either in grams, or up a rung) you may do so after that. The slower the better!
