  • Would you mind evaluating my eating so far?

Hello ladies and germs... I didn't feel very confident about my first day of induction, that is to say, I didn't feel "deprived" as I think I should've felt. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but more likely I think I did something incorrectly.

    Here's what I ate yesterday:

    Breakfast

    4 Scrambled Eggs w/ Cheese
1 Dose of Fiber & Herb Pills (2 Pills each)

    Lunch

6-7 Slices of Lean Steak w/ Cheese
    1/2 Cup Broccoli

    Dinner

5-6 Slices of Lean Chicken w/ Cheese
    Protein Shake, consisting of
    • 1 Scoop EAS Whey Protein (2 Carbs)
    • Water (BLECH!)
    • 2 Tbsp. Peanut Butter (7 Carbs)

As you might imagine, I'm most worried about the peanut butter. I realize it's not on the Induction list but at the time I couldn't imagine swallowing down a mix of protein powder and water. And I looked at the amount of carbs respective to what I had eaten through that point in the day, and didn't want to have say, under 12 Carbs for my first day, had I omitted the peanut butter. Reason being, I didn't want to have to set the bar so low that when it went over 12 I screwed everything up.

Am I stressing over nothing, or did I waste my first day?

    Thanks!

I am sure others will be able to give you more information as well. You do not seem to have enough veggies. The peanut butter is a big no-no. Lots of people have a problem with nuts being a trigger food and peanuts/peanut butter seems to be the big one. Also I hope you are drinking enough water. You didn'y mention it. But water is very important in this way of life. I am also wondering about your fat/calorie levels. I am not sure you are getting enough. I use fit day (www.fitday.com) and it does require a bit of time, but it helps alot. And don't worry when the hubby and I first tarted we messed up the first week. Best of luck to you in this WOE.

According to all I've read here, you're short on salad veggies and water. Yes, peanut butter is a big no-no on induction. You will be able to add that back in further down the road. A lot of people don't count something as being water unless it's just water, nothing added in. If you don't like regular tap water, you might try bottled spring water. There really is a difference in taste.

More will be along to respond with better advice than I can give. But good luck in your journey. You can do this!

        Hi, Stephen

Definitely not enough veggies. You should be having 3 cups of Salad Vegetables from page 125 in the book, or 2 cups of Salad Vegetables and 1 cup of Other Vegetables listed on page 126 in the book. All you had was 1/2 cup of broccoli which is an Other Vegetable. More than half of your net carbs should come from veggies.

Please don't rely on Fiber & Herb pills for fiber - you need to choose veggies with the most nutrition and fiber.

Why is it important to you to use protein powder? Whey is not allowed until Rung 2 of OWL.

Peanut butter is not allowed until Rung 3 of OWL.

You need water, water, and more water.

Atkins does work if followed to the letter in the 2002 version of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. You should never feel deprived.

        Good luck!
