  • xpost from OWL- Am I moving up rungs correctly?

I was going to wait 1 more week on rung 1 because we're vacationing this week and I know it will be enough of a struggle without trying to introduce new foods. I won't have my scale, my regular eating etc... but I'm noticing I need about 5 extra carbs or so to feel satisfied and be able to hit my minimum calorie requirements due to all these extra veggies I’m adding in.

If I understand from the posts I read here correctly I’m only to add 5 carbs of each particular food rung until I get out of OWL/premaintenance. Like, if I were to stay on rung 1 I shouldn’t actually be advancing my carb intake of the veggies to 25 or 30 in the coming weeks. I should only be having my 3 cups of veggies plus 5 net carbs of veggies.

So based on this I think I need to advance to dairy this week. I’ll plan on advancing from 20 to 25 carbs on 3 days this week (5 of the carbs will be from dairy rung foods) and then on the other 3-4 days I’ll do my usual 20 carbs without dairy. If I come back and have lost my weight or inches I’ll advance the week after to 25 carbs with some form of 5 carb dairy every day.

    Is that correct?

You can stay as long as you want on any of the rungs increasing 5 net carbs per week if you'd like.

Say induction you had 15 net carbs
week 1 veggie rung you go to 20 net carbs
week 2 stay on veggie rung go to 25 net carbs
week 3 stay on veggie rung to to 30 net carbws
    week 4 veggies--35 net carbs

You could, really, go all the way to maintenance doing this (although I don't recommend it). I *DO* however, strongly recommend that you get to 30 ish net carbs of veggies before you go crazy on dairy (which is what I did). Dairy foods, while carbier are much much higher calorie foods because of the FAT. Dairy should be treated as condiment, not side dish or main courses (IMO). Besides, the fiber from the veggies, and the vitamins/nutrients in veggies are good for your digestive system.

Re: xpost from OWL- Am I moving up rungs correctly?

Thank you for responding so quickly. I thought I read in a post here (but of course didn't clip it) that only 5 net carbs/category were supposed to be added until maintenance when 10 per category could be added.

But I also have only about 10 lbs left to lose. I've lost 14 lbs in a little over a month (to my surprise) and I want to make it through the rungs in a timely fashion. I'm not expecting a stall on the veggie rungs... I just thought it would be safer to do another week on veggies since we're going on vacation.

So it's ok to move it up to 25 carbs/day this week and have 3 cups induction veggies with 10 additional net carbs of acceptable veggies to meet the 25/day? Or should the carbs come from increased use of spices, allowing all my cheeses in which I've had to cut out on some days, etc?

And, should I only do 25 3 days/week or is it ok to go ahead and increase it every day of the week during the first week?

I think I found the post... it's in the FAQs. So this would be making an exception to the rule but because its veggies its a better idea than say, adding 10 net carbs of dairy or grains which might not be as good for you as veggies.

I'm on the Grains Rung. My CCLL is 80. Can I eat more than 5 net carbs of grains?

Technically, no. You're limited to 5 net carbs of OWL foods. Pre-Maintenance is when you can increase your food amounts to 10 net carbs worth.

If you are on the OWL Berries Rung and you want eat 10 net carbs of blueberries, then no: you can't just add 10 net carbs of blueberries because your CCLL is 30. OWL foods are added in 5 net carb amounts.
