  • Please Critique My Menu

    Hi everyone!

    I just started induction on Monday and so far I'm down 5 pounds in 5 days, so it's going good so far! Here's an example of what I'm eating for the day, please let me know if you think I should be adding or taking anything away - I want to make sure I'm doing this right!

    Breakfast:
    Coffee
    Atkins Chocolate Shake Mix (3 net carbs)

    Snack:
    Chedder Cheese String

    Lunch:
    1/2 a head of broccoli
    2 stalks celery
    1/2 a cucumber
    3 tbsp Ranch Dressing
    4 Chicken Wings

    Snack:
    Chedder Cheese String (I love these things!)

    Supper:
    10 Chicken Wings
    Cheese
    A few veggies (not much)

    shakes are a no-no, sorry - look at the ingredients... all the ingredients on anything you eat have to be on the acceptable foods list.

    your coffee is decaf right? with heavy cream?

    make sure your not going over your 3 cup veggies allowance also.

    Congrats on the 5lbs, thats great!

      It's not decaf nope, but I thought you could have caffineated coffee...

        Maybe I will stop the shakes... I was just taking them because I thought the more protein the better, and I figured I wasn't getting enough protien. But I do hate the way they taste so I'd be happy to stop them!

          Caffeine is a really bad staller and can play havoc with your blood sugar. It really should not be included.

          I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

            oh no no no!!! if you eat too much protein it can turn to glucose! nasty stuff that!

            concentrate on getting your fats higher! thats the important thing!

                I don't care what other people say. Dr. Atkins did not forbid us to have caffeinated coffee. You can have your one cup.

                Instead of the shake, have some eggs for breakfast.

                    Here's what it says:

                    9. Avoid too much coffee, tea and soft drinks that contain caffeine. Excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar.

                    Additionally, you can have the following:
                    • Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
                    • Club soda
                    • Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
                    • Decaffeinated or regular coffee or tea*
                    • Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda™); be sure to count the carbs
                    • Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories")
                    • Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
                    • Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons
                    * Caffeine can cause cravings or blood sugar spikes with some people. If you’re one of them, you should drink only decaffeinated beverages. If you don’t have a problem with caffeine, you may drink one or two caffeinated beverages a day, because evolving research indicates there may actually be health benefits to a limited amount of caffeine. However, if you have a true caffeine addiction, it will be best to break it during Induction, because any food addiction can cause problems if it isn’t taken care of. Once you’ve broken the addiction and moved on to OWL, you can carefully try adding caffeinated beverages back into your food intake, as long as it doesn’t trigger the addiction again.
