  • 1st Day - Menu critique?

First time back on induction in a LONG time. So I probably need some input. I am trying to keep my menu as simple as possible, so bear with me.

This is what I am having for today through lunch, don't know about dinner yet. Carb count estimate next to each item

    Breakfast
Coffee- Two Tbsp. of heavy cream ( 1 )
Half avocado with two tbsp whipped cream cheese ( ? )

    Snack
    6 large green olives (2)
    1 oz Pork rinds (sp) ( 0 )
    2 Tbsp sour cream dip ( 2 )

    Lunch
    2 Chicken breasts ( small ) ( 0 )
    1/4 cup alfredo sauce ( 2 )

I don't know how much carbs is in the half avocado, so I am sure I am above 12 after lunch.

Any suggestions? How does this look so far?
    Thanks for the feedback!

There is quite a lot of cream in there, between the 2 tbsp in your coffee, 2 tbsp sour cream dip and the alfredo sauce. Some people handle cream well, for others it is something to have in moderation. The book suggests limiting it to 2-3 tbsps daily.

I don't see any veggies at all in there. You need to have your 2 cups of salad veg and one cup from the other veg list daily, most of your carbohydrate during induction should come from veg and it should be spread out throughout the day.

Olives, avocado, cream and sour cream are all from the special category foods, which the book points out are there to add variety and can slow losses, so are more intended as occasional things rather than the mainstay of your eating.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe what I am trying to do isn't really too feasible. I am trying to make quick and easy meals that are filling, high in fat, and relatively simple simple to throw together.

So my limit on cream in 2 TBSP. Limit on Cheese is 2 ounces... avocados and olives on occasion... I am trying to figure out some things to replace these items. Deviled Eggs might be a good addition, but I was told a month or so ago i was allergic to eggs from allergy tests. So, any suggestions? Thanks

Cheese (the allowed ones) are actually 3-4 oz a day. I like to use the string cheese they sell as a quick easy snack, they are one oz. a piece. Later on you can add cottage, ricotta etc. but that is at a higher rung, not for induction.

I also see some processed/high sodium foods (olives, pork rinds) which *might* lead to some water retention/swelling.

Veggies are not optional--they are MANDATORY. You need to eat 3 cups of "salad" veggies OR 2 cups "salad" and 1 cup "other" veggies each day. Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? You really need to! It explains each phase of the plan in great detail, gives acceptable foods lists, and explains the science of the diet, the "hows" and "whys" of how it works. Until you can locate a copy of the book, check out the Induction stickies in the FAQ forum to get a list of these veggies.

Are you drinking your water? 64oz. is the minimum, but I say, drink up! It's good for you! The coffee might be a problem...I personally would ditch it.

Also, this isn't food-related, but are you exercising? That's another mandatory part of the plan!
