  • Fitday!

Many of us at ADBB use www.fitday.com to keep track of what we are eating. It's free to sign up, and it has tons of other features. You can plot your weight loss on a graph, keep track of your exercise, keep a journal, set yourself different goals, and much more!

The first thing people generally use at Fitday is the Foods tab. Here you can enter what you eat by either looking it up, or adding in your own custom foods. What I find works fastest is to enter all my foods first, then go down the list after and adjust all of the portion sizes.

Fitday gives you both a percentage chart and a graph showing your fat/protein/carb amounts.
Your goal is ideally 65%fat/30%protein/5%carbs, but it's ok if the numbers fluctuate a little bit from day to day. If you're following the plan as laid out in DANDR, they should naturally fall within those parameters but it's always good to see it all laid out in front of you.
(NOTE: re: net carbs - In order to calculate your net carbs, just look at the chart and subtract your fiber from the total carb count. If fiber isn't listed on the chart, look to the left and go into Goals. Set yourself a fiber goal (I put 5 min, 5 max, any number will do) and you'll see fiber appear on the chart. )

Click the 'Help' tab on the top right of the screen at Fitday to go through the various features. On the main page you will see how to allow others to see your Fitday, which can be handy when you need someone to look at it and offer advice on how you are doing.
When you post a Fitday link to your foods, do remember that it's also important to write out your menu as well, so we can see how your food was prepared and served (i.e. chicken sauteed in olive oil..cauliflower mashed with cream and butter) and we have an idea what your meals are like. Refer to this sticky when posting your menu:

      Re: Fitday!

Thank you SO MUCH for the information on FitDay! It's great. I've been wanting to find a way to keep track and check carbs, calories, etc. and I was so excited to find this. One question, how can I post my menus for evaluation to the ADBB? I've never done anything like this before.

            Re: Fitday!

My problem with fitday is some of the foods don't match up with the back of my labels, also some food isint available in my portion, and I don't have the time to sit and browse through the list. Thanks for listening

You can add your own foods to the menu and get the correct portions in it too match what is on your label.

                Re: Fitday!

I just joined FitDay. It works really well for getting fat/carb/protein percentages, but I noticed that it doesn't calculate net carbs on custom foods (unless there's a trick I don't know). Just something to keep an eye out for if you're using it to keep track of carbs.

                  Re: Fitday!

                  Hi.

I have been using Fitday for some time and it is great....so very useful......best available for sure.

I have a question for you.....

I have just started taking 10 - 20 gms of fibre per day in the form of Whole Psyllium Husks in order to reduce my total carb intake....as carbs less fibre equals the net carb result which is what I need to know.

However, there are no carbs in this product I am taking...... no proteins, fat or carbs ....it is purely fibre.

How can I add this into the equation on your programme? It is very important for me to be able to add this as it naturally reduces the overall results considerably.

I can't simply add 10gms fibre as I get the message that I have to enter more carbs otherwise I can't get it to work.

So..........when I do try to test it by entering 10 gms carbs in order to achieve 10 gms fibre in the table, it confuses the daily percentages etc. as I am not taking the 10 gms of carbs.

I would very much appreciate your help.

                  Thankyou

                    Re: Fitday!

As you have found, you will need to add the total carb number of 10 as well as the fiber number of 10 to get fitday to accept it (it treats fiber as being a carb). So your idea of adding extra fibre does not 'reduce your total carb intake' - instead it just adds to both your total carb and your fiber carb intake, while leaving your net carb intake the same.

As fitday is not set up as a specific lowcarb tracking programme, it is not capable of deducting the fiber count from the carb count to get your ratios exactly right, but as most of us are not adding large amounts of pure fibre it doesnt mess with the ratios to much of an extent.

If you want to add the extra fibre in quantities which would impact the ratios greatly you will need to calculate the changes yourself separately, by making notes of the totals and doing the maths.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                      Thank you for your reply.
Forgetting fitday.......am I correct in assuming that if I include 10 or 20 gms of Whole Psyllium Husks i.e. pure fibre, to my daily food intake that it will reduce carb intake that day by 10-20 gms?
I am trying to keep to a max of 20gms at the moment and that is fine. The reason I began taking the fibre is to keep my bowels in order while at this stage and it got me thinking...is this one big diet secret....take fibre to counteract the carbs?
The tin suggests 10 gms twice a day so its quite safe.

                        Re: Fitday!

                        Nope!!

The fibre grams in the psyllium husks have no impact at all on your other carbs. All you are doing is adding an extra amount of fibre which is not counted in your net carbs.

I notice you are in England. Our labels do not count fibre as being a carb at all, so it will not change anything. Fitday works on the US system which does count fiber in its total carbs, and then for Atkins they deduct the fiber to get the 'countable carbs', also called 'net carbs'.

Say you are eating 20 net carbs of other foods and add 10 grams of husks. Your total carb count (carbs less fiber in USA) will increase by 10 grams under the USA system of counting, your fiber grams will increase by 10 grams but your net carbs will not change and will still be 20.

Working by our non-USA system fibre is not counted in the total carbs on labels at all, so UK 'total carbs' = USA 'net carbs'.

This does get complicated when using fitday as for the numbers on our labels to be accepted as a 'custom food' entry we have to add the fibre carbs onto the total carbs listed on our labels and state the fibre carbs as well, so we can deduct them from Fitday's total carbs to get the net carb numbers.

You can see the difference on our labels by the fact that 'fibre' is not listed under the same heading as 'Carbohydrates' along with the 'of which sugars', but appears a couple of lines further down, after the 'fat, of which saturates' section.

                          Here is a US-style label . . . . . . . . . . and a UK-style label (I couldn't find labels for the same product, but you can see how they are set out differently I hope.)

It appears that Fitday changed their interface on the online version today. Much cleaner with several more options including the ability to track your body measurements. Overall, I'm impressed.
