  • Need Advice/Help with My Induction Menu

    Hi everyone~
I'm on day 9 of my induction diet, and just started using Fitday to see what my fat, calories and carbs are calculated for today. If someone could please review my menu, I would really appreciate any feedback. I guess I'm wondering if I've consumed too much fat for one day:

    Breakfast:
1 egg fried in butter 0.6 carbs
3 slices of thin bacon 0.1 carbs

    Lunch:
    2 cups lettuce 2.6 carbs
2 pieces of bacon 0.1 carbs
1 oz of cheddar cheese chopped up 1.0 carbs
2 tbs. of bottled ceasar dressing 1.0 carbs

    Snack:
2 oz of tuna in water 0 carbs
    2 tbs. mayo 2.0 carbs

Fitday is calculating this so far for today as 805 cal., 70 fat grams, 39 g of protein.

I've had about 70 oz. of water so far today, and was on my treadmill for 30 minutes.

I wanted to have a little corned beef & 1 cup of cabbage for dinner, but not sure if I've already had too much fat for the day. What is a max amount of fat grams that should be consumed per day on Atkins? I can't find an answer in my book. I know that eating fat on Atkins is a good thing, but don't want to eat way too much of it.

Thanks for any help at all - ready for day 10 of induction tomorrow . . .

The best judge is to have about 35% protein, 65% fat and 5% carb on induction. You should try to have both vegis and fat at each meal
    Does this help?

Dont worry about fat, seriously, the more fat i eat the more weight i lose, you only need to bother about ratios and amounts is when you are struggling to lose, not in induction!
you need fat to get those calories up anyway!!

try not to eat lettuce every day, its just leaves of water, no nutrition and pretty pointless!

how come your bacon has carbs, have you checked the ingredients?

Re: Need Advice/Help with My Induction Menu

The 0.1 carb count for bacon is what is listed in the back of my DNADR book. We get all of our meet from a local butcher, so nothing is packaged or any additional ingredients added. I think what is scarring me is seeing the fat grams on the mayo & salad dressing bottles. My calorie total for today of 805 didn't seem bad at all, and my carb count is only 6 carbs for the day. It was the fat grams that really made me wonder if I'm consuming "too" much. Is it important to go as close to 20 grams of carbs for a day, or better & more effective to stay considerably under, say between 10-15 grams of carbs for a day?

I agree about the lettuce, and so I think for lunch tomorrow, I'll try a salad of a few tomatoes, cucumbers, celery and an oz. of mozarella cheese - actually that sounds really yummy now that I typed it out )

Thanks so much for the help and advice, I really appreciate it. I'm really trying hard on this induction diet and it really seems to be working, and I have so much more energy! I've also noticed that I am not having any headaches like I used to before I started on Atkins - which is a good thing.

It is important to get veggies with nutrition in them, lettuce doesnt have much - ive always tried to avoid it! its not the lower carbs the better, no way! but you should try and push it up via veggies not other stuff.

your calories seem low to me, whats your BMR?

really, dont stress about the fat, concentrate more on getting those veggie carbs up

Re: Need Advice/Help with My Induction Menu

Well, I just calculated my BMR and it says that it's 1302. I did go ahead and have some corned beef & 1 cup cabbage w/butter for dinner since it was cooking all day and looked really good. So my final totals for today are:
            1161 calories
            95 fat grams
            10 grams of carbs
            66 grams of protein
            75% fat, 2% carbs, 23% protein

Ok, tomorrow I definately need to make better induction food choices! Tomorrow, I'll definately take your advice and try to get more carbs from veggies.

Fat is our friend on Atkins! Enjoy it.

As for veggies, you want to choose vegetables that are higher in carb. 20 net is the maximum, so if you get 12-15 that's fine too. BUT, you're better off because of the nutritional value to use veggies a little higher in carbs.

On the salad list, I personally choose red/yellow/orange sweet peppers, jicama, cucumber, celery for my two cups. On the other list, I typically go for cauliflower, pumpkin, brussel sprouts or something of greens (collards, turnips, spinach, etc.)

Don't be afraid of vegetables. Fat and veggies are our friend. As soon as your two week induction is over, you get to add more veggies, and it's wonderful.
