  • Joy's Menu 1/7

Hello, new to adkins, like a week I guess. This is my second time around.
Here is my menu for today.
I do not know how to use fit day. When I was in before I couldn't figure it out. So, unless it has improved I cannot do that. So, I have never actually counted my carbs, ever.
So I want to learn from to experienced group so here goes:
    Food Journal

    January 7 Monday

    Breakfast

    2 eggs

    ¼ cup cheddar cheese

    1 t. butter

    Snack

    2 shrimp

    ¼ t. olive oil

    Lunch

    ½ cup spinach

    1 t. blue cheese

    shrimp 6 small

both cooked in 1 T. Olive Oil total

    garlic/onion powder

    1 cup romaine

    1 T. Ken’s Blue Cheese Dressing 0 carbs

    Snack

    1 small chicken leg

    ½ cup broccoli

    w/1 T. Hellman’s Mayo 1 carb

    Supper

    1cup romaine

    ½ cup broccoli

    2 T. Kens Creamy Ceasar 0 Carbs

1 t. olive oil on salad

    ½ large chicken breast

    ¼ t. olive oil

To tell the truth the broccoli today tasted great, a little sweetness to it. Cause I was hungry for each meal.
Thanks ya'll for checking this out.
    I am open to suggestions.
    Blessings,
    Joy

Thanks for responding to my e-mail Mirya.

I use the powder not salt. Better for me.
I tried using Fitday, I fought with it and actually got in a egg but nothing else. Could use some help.
But gotta go to bed now.
      See you soon,

That is something I don't use unfortunately. I just feel better about traking my own things. Will occassionally use buddyslim but just for reference

Good morning, Joy. You're menu looks good. It doesn't seem like a lot of food, though. Does it satisfy your hunger? As long as you are eating enough so that you're not hungry, you should be okay.

You don't have to use fitday, but I do recommend you at least get one of those little spiral bound notepads and write down EVERYTHING you eat and count your carbs that way.

Thank you Valid Rouge for responding to my e-mail
I tried to do it by the book. 2 cups from the first veggie list did that, 1 cup from other veggie list.

Should I eat more for breakfast with more fat.

            Today I ate:

            Breakfast

            2 eggs

            with 1 oz cream cheese

            small cup coffee

            1 t. heavy cream

            1 pkt. splenda
            Lunch salad w/
            bacon

            egg

            small tomato

            1 cup pork

            small green onion

            1/8 cup cheese

How can I get the amount to go up? Maybe more meat/fat for lunch, let me know what you think about changing yesterdays or todays menu to make sure I am getting what I need.
I am unable to use fitday. Don't understand how to do the fields there. So have no idea what each of my meals consist of fat, protein or veggie wise.
Suppose to be 65 gm fat/is it 30 protein and 5% carbs? Still unsure how to eat 2-3 T. cream and only 3 pkts. of splenda, and how much oil to use and how much salad dressing/mayo per day. Even though I read and read I cannot get a handle how to do that.
            Thanks for your help.
            Blessings,
            Joy

              Breakfast
              2 eggs (1.2 carbs)
with 1 oz cream cheese (1 carb)
              small cup coffee (1 carb)
              1 t. heavy cream (1 carb)
              1 pkt. splenda (1 carb)

Lunch salad w/ (when you say salad, do you mean lettuce? did you use salad dressing? how many cups of "salad"?) assuming 1 cup shredded lettuce (1 carb)
              bacon
              egg (1 carb)
              small tomato (3 net carbs)
              1 cup pork
small green onion (.25 net carbs)
              1/8 cup cheese (.25 carb)

How can I get the amount to go up?
mayo or ranch/blue cheese salad dressing, or olive oil as salad dressing there are no limits except to only eat to your appetite and use common sense. It's not 65 grams of fat, it's that 65% of your calories come from fat. If you're not going to use fitday, it's going to be extremely hard to get the calories. If you're going to do this by hand, then you'll have to just count carbs. Just make sure that if you eat lean meat (like skinless chicken breast or very lean pork or beef) that you put some fat on it, like mayo dip or butter or something like that.

With this menu, for dinner I would have 1 full cup of something like broccoli or brussel sprouts or cauliflower or pumpkin with butter. I'd have a baked chicken leg quarter (thigh and leg) with the skin on. Or, boneless skinless chicken breast sauteed in butter and olive oil, then some parmesan cheese mixed with that and some cream to make an alfredo sauce. Add the broccoli and now you've got a high fat, yummy, creamy Chicken and broccoli alfredo.

Maybe more meat/fat for lunch, let me know what you think about changing yesterdays or todays menu to make sure I am getting what I need.

                    Re: Joy's Menu 1/7

                    Hi Mirya,

That menu sounds great. I am eating more now, I didn't know that 12-15 carbs should come from veggies. I did Atkins before, in '05, and I do not remember hearing that. It's been a while so my memory could be wrong.
I like keeping a food journal, even though I haven't looked up the ratio's or calories.
So, how much of the chopped veggies did you eat at breakfast, just wondering. I am learning so much seeing what others do and then I can add their ideas to what I am doing.
Here is what I ate for breakfast:
1 hamburger pattie topped w/ 1 oz cream cheese
                    1 t. EVOO
                    Have a wonderful day,
                    Blessings,
                    Joy

The version of DANDR we follow here doesnt lay down any specific number of carbs for vegetables, but does say we should get 'most' of our net carbs from our veggies.
As far as I know the 12-15 number quoted comes from the Atkins company's website where they have rewritten some of the rules.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hmm, I read a post that said it here on this board so I took it as fact. It does seem reasonable though.
I am new only day 4 for me I am still on a big learning curve.
