  • New menu ---starting monday

    hello,
    i was told my last menu didn't look healthy so here is my new one, i've introduced a few veggies into it now and i will be trying some new ones as i began, but for now please tell me if i can expect to lose some lbs with this menu and exercise regimine....thanks


    breakfast:
    3 slices of bacon
    12 oz water

    exercise:
    20 min morning walk

    lunch:
    southwestern chicken salad
    southwester chicken
    1-1 1/2 cups lettuce
    shredded cheese
    12-24 oz water = ~5-6 carbs total

    snack:
    ~ 1-2 oz cheddar cheese
    12 oz water

    exercise:
    20 situps
    50 arm lifts per arm (5lb weight) upgrading to 10 or 20lbs soon,lol)
    ride exercise bike for 20-30 mins
    occasional 1 mile walk at track (when it warms up)

    supper:
    cheeseburger (no bun)
    or taco salad (plain hamburger, lettuce, shredded cheese)
    or skinless boneless chicken breast
    or chicken salad
    12-24 oz water

    occasional bedtime snack:
    1/2 or 1 cup of celery

    does this look a little better for an atkins menu???thanks for help...

    For supper I would make sure to include some veggies as a side dish: broccoli is always a good option. From what I can see now, you are getting no more than 2 cups of veggies: you should be getting 3. Veggies should also mean more than lettuce and celery: you want 12-15 of your 20 carbs to be coming from veggies, so look over your induction veggies again and try some new veggies out and spread them out over the day (not all at lunch).       A couple of things there to look out for. One is shredded cheese - if you buy the pre-shredded it will have cornflour in it to prevent clumping, sp be sure to shred your own. As far as I am aware Southwestern Chicken Salad has corn and beans in it. Neither are allowed. I am a bit at a loss to know how you are getting 5-6 carbs from that lunch since you are only eating a small amount of lettuce and chicken should have no carbs.

      I also agree with Holly - not enough veg. Most of your carbs should come from veg. Lettuce hardly counts, it's really just water. Try to have some more nutritious veg and to have some at each meal. So perhaps fry some mushrooms and peppers to have with breakfast, eat some broccoli or other greens with dinner, and have a salad with more than just lettuce in it at lunch.

      Just because you measure your veg in cups doesn't mean you have to have a cup of each one you eat in a day. You could have a half cup each of six different veg. This is a good idea especially if you are not a big veg eater - it'll help you to get to like them. And remember that the only difference in moving on to the the first rung of OWL will be even more veg.
