  • My Menu - Plz Help!

    I have been on induction for over 7 days, but no loss so far. I've used ketosiks every day in the morning but they haven't indicated any change either. Please review my diet to make sure I'm on track. This was what I ate yesterday, which is typical on any day. I also take multi-vitamins and medicine for my thyroid. (NC=net carbs)

    Breakfast:
    Atkins Bar - 3 NC
    3 ounces cheddar cheese - 0 NC
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)
    24 oz water

    Snack:
    1 cheddar hot dog - 3 NC
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)

    Lunch:
    3 stalks celery - 2.4 NC
    8 oz tuna - 0 NC
    2-3 tbls mayo - 0 NC
    1/2 tbl sweet relish - 2 NC
    24 oz water
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)
    1 tbl whipped cream - .5 NC

    Snack:
    3 oz cheddar slices - 0 NC
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)
    2 tbls whipped cream - 1 NC

    Dinner:
    8 oz baked salmon (w/butter) - 0 NC
    1/2 cup salad (lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, green pepper) - 2 NC
    1/2 tbl cesear dressing - .5 NC
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)
    24 oz water

    Snack:
    2 tbls whipped cream - 1 NC
    3 oz cheddar slices - 0 NC
    1 diet coke (caffeine free)

    If you don't have the book (DANDR 2002), you should read the sticky notes on the board (especially on the induction forum). They are very useful in planning a menu and in successfully doing Atkins.

    What should I start with... First, the cheese - you are only allowed a maximum of 4 oz per day, but you seem to eat around 10! Second, the diet coke - drinking one at each meal surely does not help you losing weight. Try cutting it off your menu during induction. It might sound a bit hard, but it only lasts for 14 days and then you can start adding foods back. Plus, you LOSE weight!

    Does the sweet relish have sugar in it? If it does (even though it only adds 2 net carbs), you are not allowed to have it.

    Does the sausage in the hot dog have additives (sugar, nitrates) in it? Then it's not legal either.

    I never had whipped cream since I started Atkins, but as far as I know (I'm in my lunch break at the uni and my book is home so I can't check right now) you're only allowed two-three tablespoons per day. Definitely not 5!

    Does the caesar dressing have sugar? If you bought it, it probably does. Anything that has sugar is illegal.

    You are supposed to have 3 cups of veggies per day. Right now you have 1, 1 1/2. Upper your veggies, too.

    If you have a lot to lose, than I would also recommend you to drink more than 72 oz of water.

      Hi,

      You had some excellent advice there.

      I would also add that the Atkins bar may be causing a stall - lots of people around here have had trouble with them. I'd also say add a cup of heavy veg to your salads (2 cups) in order to get more nutrients and fibre - broccoli, cauliflower, etc are great.

        Just one other thought on the cream, if you are buying ready whipped cream it often has sugar in it. Check the labels for that.
