  • I've got to lay off the cheese

I'm trying to get back into the groove of this low-carb thing, but I think there's only been one day in the past three weeks when I've been able to keep my carbs at around 20-30g. I've lost five pounds, but this morning I have regained 3. grrrr.

I think I know now where I'm going wrong - too much cheese! I've been putting it on everything. Cheddar on my scrambled eggs, cream cheese on my flax crackers, cream cheese in my mock danish, mozza and parm on my baked eggplant, melted cheese crisps for a snack while watching TV.

I thought as long as I stayed away from bread, potatoes and sugar, I was on the right track - that's how I lost 60 pounds about five years ago. But now that I'm over 40, the weight's not coming off like it did back then. Guess I've got to start limiting the cheese.

Seems a good idea to get you started on the right track. Stick to the 3-4 ounces for induciotn and see how things go
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

If you aim to make sure that your veg is at least half, preferably even up to 2/3rds of your carbs, then the limit on veg automatically puts a limit on what carbs you get from cheese or elsewhere.

Cheese is tough. It slows me down, too, primarily because it's so full of calories. I keep it as a snack, and let myself have it only once every other day, or once every three days. I find that if I have too much cheese, I end up having far more than I thought, and my calories get totally out of whack.

Thanks everyone. I've cut back on the cheese (more good luck than anything - I have been too busy working, so I wasn't going back and forth to the fridge) and I'm down 2 pounds.
          Only 65 more to go.

Re: I've got to lay off the cheese

I can tell you a couple of things about cheese from my past experience.

For a lot of people it does cause weight stall. I don't think it is just the extra carbs either although if you are eating a lot of it, that will have an effect. But cheese affects people a couple of ways. Most cheeses are fairly high in salt which will cause you to retain water which may explain why your weight bounced up a little. Cheese is also binding and my experience is that when "things don't move" I don't lose. Plus cheese is really high in calories. Not a factor when everything is running smooth, but I really think it is a thing to cosider if not. IMO

Cheese sabotaged me for weeks before I figured it out! Way to go on cutting it back!

cheese is my downfall too. i was the SAME way. cheese on the eggs, induction friendly cheesecake, mock danish..the list went on. it definitely stalled me in the bathroom so to speak and my weight just wasn't coming off. i've learned to make little changes..like appreciating hard boiled eggs instead of scrambled with cheese in the morning for instance. it is tough, i know. i am like the cheese queen..but it gets a little easier as time goes by. good luck!
