  • Going Crazy!! 3 weeks in induction and no results-help!!

    Hi Guys,

I have been in the induction phase for 3 weeks now and have not seen any weight loss or or inches lost. I am very frustrated. I feel that I am doing the diet right and have not cheated. Here is yesterday's food. I do normally eat one small meal at the end of the night(4oz chicken, 1/2 T mayo w a little mixed greens) but I have been sick and not eating as much.

Re: Going Crazy!! 3 weeks in induction and no results-help!!

I followed induction to the letter and didn't lose anything (well, I lost 1.5 pounds and then "gained" one). I had been eating 20-40 carbs for a couple of months before I started so I wasn't expecting the big water loss so many people get. I decided to try Atkins because I liked the feeling of low carbing, I was just eating way too many calories. I make everything from scratch and eat very healthy & have been off "white" food and junk for a long time.

In induction I had a bad time with muscle cramping unless I took a bunch of potassium, and noticed that I was starting to feel depressed - not about the lack of weight loss, I wasn't actually that worried about that since at least I was taking charge, but I just starting feeling really low. Then I found a thread in which other people had experienced this.

So - I've taken what I've learned and am tweaking it to fit me. I'm eating between 20-30 carbs (I'm still in ketosis), added a little yogurt, a few berries, an ounce of nuts, a little dark chocolate in the form of quality cocoa, coconut milk, more veggies (I'm a veggieholic), and dropped the calories to 1400-1500. I'm feeling a LOT better.

I think that the principles are great but that there is no one-size-fits-all. I lost a lot of weight following my own plan and maintained for two years, but put 15 pounds back on because I simply wasn't being vigilant and accountable to myself, which I know I need to be.

Some people clearly do brilliantly following the program to the letter, but in reading through a lot of the older journals a lot of other people clearly struggle. I believe everyone has to find exactly what works best for them. There are a number of different low carb "diets" (don't much like that word), and some appeal to some people and not others. I don't really have any advice, apart from my belief that everyone needs to figure out what they can realistically do for the rest of their lives.

    cheers,
    Sue

I also have had many problems with cramping. I have been taking alot of potassium but I had to up the amount and increase my water intake. I will keep your advice in mind. I am glad you found something that works well for you.

I want to try and stick to the atkins for a while. The only time I have lost weight is when I worked out and ate healthy. I lost over 50 pounds doing that a few years back. I cannot work out now due to a failed back surgery so I try and do light walking when possible.

If anyone else has suggestions I would love to hear them!!!

      Thanks!!

I totally agree with Suechef. If I follow Atkins Induction to the letter I never get that burst of energy that others speak so glowingly of. In fact, I feel a lack of energy, can't make myself exercise, and get very depressed.

However, I follow the basic plan and "tweak" it to make it work for me. If I keep my carbs around 40 I feel great! I believe what I'm doing is following one of the rungs where I get to eat nuts and berries, but I also treat myself to some of those delicious Kashi bars.

I still love to visit this board for advise and inspiration, and have lost 13 of the 20 pounds I am trying to lose.

Good luck to all in the battle to be healthy!
