  • New Atkineer - no results on day 3

    Hi all ,

    I'm looking to have my menu reviewed as this is my 3rd day of induction and I have actually gained 2 pounds. I know it is recommended to read the book first, but mine is in the mail and I was excited to start right away. I'm finding it hard to make my vegetables reach up to the 12-15 carb vegetable allotment. Any suggestion are much appreciated.

    Amanda, have you looked at the allowed foods list? There's a *lot* more than lettuce and mushrooms on it!

    You've gotta mix them up. Not only will the variety do you good, but you'll get your fiber in too.

    General rule of thumb for success: If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce it, you probably shouldn't eat it.

      Thanks so much for such a quick response. Well what I did was I made a salad, it was the most convenient way to get the veggies in without cooking tonight. Aside from that though, I just feel like 2-3 cups of veggies isn't much, so it's hard to make such a small amount very diverse.

      Do you weight veggies or use a measuring cup?

      Did my food intake look appropriete otherwise?

        I'm probably not the best person to address the veggies issue. I followed the Atkins Center's advice (back in the day when Dr. Atkins was still around and ran things. I called and talked to a counselor there at length.) The book says 2-3 cups of veggies a day. Period. That is *not* what I did or do or what I was told by the Atkins Center to do being I had a food scale at my disposal and was willing to use it. I weigh my food. I believe it to be a much more accurate way to account for intake and it has always worked for me- without fail. I can eat way more veggies than the prescribed 2-3 cups, still keep under 20 grams of carb, and follow all the induction rules just fine. When you fill a cup full of lettuce or tomato and I fill a cup full of lettuce or tomato, you can bet the amounts in that cup are going to vary widely. An ounce is an ounce is an ounce is an ounce.

        But I digress. The ADBB mantra is 2-3 cups, just like DANDR 2002 says.

        On your fitday, I'm only seeing what I can break down into two meals. Didn't you eat three plus snacks if you needed them? What about water intake, supplements, and exercise?

          I actually did break it down into 3 meals.

          Bacon/egg breakfast

          Sirloin for lunch

          Salad/Sirloin for dinner

          I did snack on olives and cheese which I had forgotten to add until you mentioned snacks, I drank water but not nearly enough, and I take multi vitamins regurlarly.

          So if I'm to understand correctly, you plop your veggies on the scale and weight them by ounces to determine your cups that way? That is what I did today, and found I was able to eat more lettuce than if I had measured it with an actual measuring cup.

            Water. Drink lots and lots of water, that is one way we shed. Stay focused and dont give up. God Bless, Joe

              Make sure to eat all your veggies, and get enough fat in. If you keep your percentages right, you lose better. Keep the cheese to no more than 4 ounces a day, and olives have carbs and tons of salt. They can make you retain water. You know, its better to go through Induction for two weeks before you weigh yourself, and did you take any measurements?
              P.S. I couldn't wait the two weeks and weighed myself today.
              Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

                salty things make you retain water (as said above) looks like your diet is probably full of it...

                There is a ton of salt in:

                Bacon!
                olives

                and if you put anything on your steak (ie: salt)..haha...then that's high in salt too

                Also I don't know too many people who don't have a habit of putting salt on their eggs.

                Plus there's high sodium in a lot of salad dressings, and any steak sauces are high in sodium.

                When you drink a lot of water, your body realizes that its getting enough, and stops retaining it. One who consistantly doesn't drink enough water, can lose 10 pounds+ of water weight in a week, just by drinking 64+ ounces a day!

                avoid salt, and keep a water bottle on you always!
