Good luck. You are very persistent with trying to work things out. That is great and inspirational. I see your fitday is working now. I will see what your menu looks like and make some comments later on. Crossing my fingers for you. You really deserve a whoosh.

Are you eating enough? I know I want to get to 130 something and I have to eat at least 1800 cals to maintain weight. Do you think you are in starvation mode because you're not eating enough?

I also see lots of poultry and white meat at that. I do know the chicken breasts are low in fat. Maybe you should switch up your meats once in a while if you don't mind eating beef or pork.

            New Update!!!

I am extremely happy to report that I have lost some weight!!!!!
I lost between 7-8 lbs (it's hard to tell ...I have one of those old school scales) I started last Monday and by Friday is when I saw the loss. I haven't lost anything since then but at least I see a difference. Yaaaaayyyy!!!!

What's weird is the ketostix never changed colors and I was wondering if the loss is because I'm consuming less calories? Brightstar wrote that I might be in starvation mode? How do I know?

I've been having decaf coffee, no sweetner except cream and no cheese at all. So I'm not sure which of the things I have given up is the reason for my success but I'm very grateful for the feedback I've learned on here.

I've been snacking on hard boiled eggs at night... and sometimes I barely finish my lunch because I'm so sick of eating pretty much the same thing.
I do change the dinners but breakfast and lunch I keep the same because I'm a very picky eater.

Thank you so much for everyone's support and next week I will start excersizing again and I guess I should move up to OWL??

            Thanks again!! woo hoo

It looks as if you are on your way!!

BTW I never saw any change in the ketostick colour at all, so dont worry too much about them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: 3rd time starting induction...please help!!

This is going to be controversial, I have a feeling. I've been taught in another program I was in (Curves) that you have to put gas in the car before you can go anywhere. The "old way" was to exercise on an empty stomach. There's science now, lots of it, that shows that it's better to break your fast no later than 30 minutes after rising, and to have eaten something within an hour of exercising.

Your body, ie your metabolism, will not start up and start burning fat if you don't give it something to go on. It will think that, my gosh, she hasn't eaten since more than 12 hours ago, maybe there's a snowstorm, she hasn't been able to forage for food, I better hold on to all this fuel so I can survive the snowstorm.

Also controversial, there is science now to show that super vigorous working out can be counterproductive to weight loss. It causes inflammation, which causes an insulin spike, which causes weight gain, not weight loss.

If you are indeed building muscle, which is questionable in my mind given the menu above, it is indeed heavier than fat. THe amount of calories it takes to actually build a pound of muscle, however, is more than what you're showing in your menu.

All that said, the basics of the plan as outlined in the book would tell you that you Must, not Maybe, put more veg into your menu. Start the day with veg, at breakfast, and have veg at every meal and snack. Rely on veg for your carb count, not cream and cheese, and I predict you'll see additional positive results.

Re: 3rd time starting induction...please help!!

I've actually heard that before about eating prior to workout but it is controversial but maybe my problem. I had stopped working out for 3 weeks when I re-started induction and that's when I lost 8lbs first week, one puond the next. I was supposed to move on to OWL but did not because of the holiday I wanted to cheat so I decided to stay on indcution for another 2 weeks.

Well I re-started pilates this week and had my cheat night and I went on the scale today and it looks like I put on 4 lbs again and I almost threw the scale out of the window... lol

I went off and on Induction for almost 3 months now and have been juggling the same 8 or 9 lbs. WHY?? This was the first time I cheated and went right back on!

I'm just about ready to give up.

Here is what I've been doing as far as FitDay. I just put it on fitday and I realize now I've barely been taking in 1200 calories so what gives????

Re: 3rd time starting induction...please help!!

Addi, I did not read your menu. But I'll just say straight up that 1200 calories is a starvation diet. That's the calories they used to put people on, in the "old school" doctor way of getting people to lose weight. I'm not an expert on this but I have learned a few things along the way. You might want to look on some of the websites that talk about body mass index. That's the percentage of your body that is fat, that is water, that is bone and organ and blood, and that is muscle.

Just for an example, if I want to weigh 145 pounds, multiply that by 100 and you get the minimum number of calories to take in if you want to maintain that weight AND a healthy muscle mass. If you exercise moderately, add 250 calories, and vigorous exercise add another 250, nad if you are an exercise maniac you have to add more calories. That's just to maintain what you have.

In any case Dr. Atkins did not want us to focus on calories. You'll see on this board when people start getting into pre-maintenance and maintenance they start talking about calories. Their weight loss has slowed down to where they are not losing like they want to. Your body will not want you to lose weight past where it is healthy to do so. For a woman that is a body mass index of 23-25.

Anyway I am guessing from what you have written that you are nowhere near a BMI of 23-25. You said you were a size 2 before pregnancy, and from what you say you must be bigger than that now. Just from what you've written it looks like you need to do some soul searching and figure out if you want to go ahead on becoming healthy or if you want to keep on cheating yourself. You might want to read the book again and see if this is really what you want to do.

Bottom line, exercise is not the only answer and in some cases is counterproductive. It seems apparent to me that you need more understanding of how this plan works, and additional commitment to working it the way it was designed. My sense is that you are probably needing to build up your muscle mass, but that can only happen if a person eats enough protein (ie calories) in conjunction with appropriate exercise. 1200 calories per day is the right amount for a woman who weighs 120 pounds and does no exercise.

Re: 3rd time starting induction...please help!!

I made a mistake. I forgot to add the bacon and hard boiled eggs to the fitday. It's not 1200 it's 1460. Quite a difference.

Are you supposed to count the carbs in eggs?

Also, someone else told me to watch my calories. They said 10 x your weight is the amount of calories to take in to lose weight. As your weight adjusts so does your calorie intake. Can anyone else confirm this?

Re: 3rd time starting induction...please help!!

You should count the carbs in the eggs.

We do a low carb diet, we worry about carbs and foods that cause blood sugar spikes. It is a whole different cup of tea than calories. The people who diet by restricting calories have their theories. You should not mix the two up. If you are low carbing focus on reducing carbs and sugars. Eat plenty of fats and moderate protein and you should be fine.

I think your body is wacked from the pregnancy. it may just take a bit of time. I would BET that since your PP weight was so low (size two??) that you will be back there again--or DARN close. Keep trying...each day is a NEW start if you mess up.

YES--working out REPLACES fat with muscle. Muscle weights MORE. You may be loosing inches but not weight persay. LOOK THINNER but not weigh less AT FIRST.

I really feel this will come for you. Hang in there. Stay with the boards. Still may have a wacky body from giving birth....(meaning hormones, etc)...takes a bit..

I know on Atkins you dont count calories exactly....and my thinking is that the protein curbs your hunger so much you naturally eat less...that is what happened the 1st time I did this 8 years ago. I was "forcing" myself to eat. I ate a TON at first...more than I may normally!! But soon---I ate less, less less (not wanting it). That is where I see the diet working...eating less--not as hungry.

All I know is that when I diet--I eat 1200 a day. But am STARVING. ALWAY STARVING (but does work until I fall off the rocker) Atkins--I eat "free" but am not as hungry (wont be in a few weeks)...works...but I love my carbs. Hard to make a life style for me...so the pattern continues....

                              Hi All,

Just wanted to check in and report my progress. I have lost 13lbs and took a little break on the weekends. I have been able to maintain the weight loss by sticking with the diet during the week but had to not drive my family crazy anymore since we had many birthday celebrations over the last few weeks. I felt terrible that they kept on changing their menus based on my diet even tho I said they didn't have to. My husband's family is italian so heavy carbs are ALWAYS on the menu.

So I think I finally figured this diet out with all of your help and I agree, I think my bod is still wacked out from the pregnancy. I have about 10-12lbs that I want to lose. So I've started again, HAPPILY, this is the only diet that I've ever lost weight on and I came close to giving up, so again, thank you all. I've even convinced my Mom to give it a try.
