  • Fitday menu Induction day 1. Have I blown it?

    Hello all,

I've tracked everything I ate today in Fitday.

FitDay Free Calorie Counter and Diet Journal:*Public Journal

Sadly I didn't have any breakfast today as I was busy packing things away but intend to have 3 meals a day as of tomorrow.

I also made a mistake. For lunch instead of measuring out cups of veg I weighed the spinach & courgettes to 100 & 90 grams. I don't know what I was thinking! I thought I was allowed 3 cups of veg/salad a day even though I've read the rules of induction a hundred times.
You can eat approximately three loosely packed cups of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables

Luckily I have not gone over my daily carb allowance so I'll be okay right? When I weighed out 1 cup of spinach for dinner I realised my mistake at lunch and the differences in portions. Have I blown it?

    Thanks x

I've always weighed my veggies instead of working with the cups measurements. Your goal is to stay at or just below 20 grams of carb a day. The loosely packed measurements were designed to keep things simple. Most people didn't have or wouldn't use a scale- and Dr. Atkins knew that. He laid it out that way so that those who don't have a scale could easily follow the plan, stick to the carb counts easily, and didn't have to over-think it.

You're doing just fine- and in weighing your food, your counts are by far more accurate.

General rule of thumb for success: If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce it, you probably shouldn't eat it.

Thanks so much that's a weight of my mind so to speak lol. Glad I'm still on track as I intend to do the induction phase for at least 6 months.

You have to look under your carb count and look at the line that says fiber. Then you subtract the fibre from the total carb count so today you have only eaten (19.4-9.9)or 9.9 carbs. So in reality you have not eaten enough veggies!!!!
You do not have to measure in cups - weighing is perfectly fine. Just make the majority of your carbs come from the salad list (and you do not have to eat them as salad. you can cook them if you like. I cook peppers and mushrooms myself

I'll remember to do that tomorrow. I guess it's just a case of getting into the habit of things. I feel silly for panicking. I'll stick to 100g while making sure I stay within my carb limits as while it turns out I didn't have as many carbs as I thought I only had 2 meals today.

          Thanks

You can find out how many grams one cup (and fractions of a cup) of most induction veggies in the thread 'Weight of vegetables per cup' in the 14-day induction forum.

One of our members Soliwit collated and posted it a while back and I find it very useful.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
