  • My menu -Induction DAY 1

    hi guys,

im on my first day of the induction phase, and i would appreciate if you could comment on my menu.

    BREAKFAST:

    1 egg (1 g carbs)
Hot mocha with almond cream (recipe from Dr Atkin's Quick & easy diet cookbook; 4 grams net carbs)

    LUNCH:

Asparagus vinaigrette (recipe from Dr Atkin's Quick & easy diet cookbook; 2.5 grams net carbs)
Chicken coconut satay with cilantro (also from the cookbook; 3 g net carbs)

    DINNER:

Asparagus vinaigrette (same as lunch's; 2.5 g net carbs)
Beef burgers with feta & tomato (from the cookbook; 3 g net carbs)

*Totaling the above, it's only 16 grams net carbs, so I will probably squeeze in about 2 ounces of cheese and 2 more eggs, cos im sure i'll get hungry in between meals

*Lots of water throughout the day

    What do you guys think?

    thanks!

Re: My menu -Induction DAY 1

    Hi J McG
    Welcome to ADBB

I'm sure I have a copy of that cookbook somewhere but I don't have it handy so can't look up the ingredients in those recipes, so can't comment on their suitability for induction.

So you need to look at the ingredients and make sure they all are listed on the induction list of allowed foods in chapter 11 of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 (DANDR 2002) which is the version we follow here.

If you don't have a copy of that book you can look on the FAQ forum here where there is a list of allowed foods.

If you can't work it out then list the ingredients here and someone can help you decide.

Assuming they contain no 'illegal' ingredients then your menus look very tasty and fine for induction.

However from the names of the recipes alarm bells are ringing in my mind - if they contain actual almonds or coconut then they would not be induction-friendly recipes and should be left till you are at OWL level/rung 3 (nuts and seeds)

    Edited to add:
If you haven't got a copy of DANDR you might find this thread useful too

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      hello elizellen!

thanks so much for your reply. i made sure that every recipe that i'll have in the cookbook says "phase 1", actually they said "phase 1-4", so i guess i can have it(?)

the almonds is actually "almond extract", just 1/4 teaspoon. not actual almonds. and the coconut is "coconut milk" -- hope they're both allowed in phase 1.

      thanks!

almond extract would be OK as long as it has no sugar/dextrose/glucose/etc or alcohol in it, however coconut milk is made by squeezing the liquid from coconut meat, so would be 'legal' once you reach the nuts/seeds rung of OWL (phase 2)
