  • not what i expected

I am doing a two week induction after having been off Atkins for two years. I am restarting after gaining all the weight back from quitting Atkins two years ago. (24 lbs)

I re-read the book and started a clean induction. After the first week, I was down four pounds. Now, five days later, I haven't lost anything. Please check out my menu and tell me if I am doing something wrong.

    Thank you!!

    Wednesday:
    breakfast -
    2 eggs, 2 slices ham, 1 ounce cheese, 1/4 cup mushroom/eggplant mixture
1 tbl sp mayo/ 1 tsp salsa mix
    All mixed into an omelet

    snack-
1/4 cup of tuna salad mixture
tuna, boiled egg, tbl mayo, dill relish (0 carb)

    lunch-
    taco meat (i made myself)
    1 tbl sp sour cream
    1 tbl salsa
    1 tbl cream cheese

    dinner-
15 shrimp with 1 tbl mayo & hot sauce mix
    1/4 eggplant & mushroom mix
    1 chicken breast

    Thursday:
    breakfast-
2 slices bacon and 2 fried eggs

    lunch-
    chicken breast
    1tbl mayo/hot sauce mixture
    2 oz cheese

    dinner-
    crab
1 tbl sp mayo/ hot sauce mix
    1/2 cup lettuce
    tomato
    5 olives
olive oil/ red wine vinegar dressing
    149.8/no weigh/ 119

    1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
    rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
    rung 4 - berries, melon
    rung 5 - wine -
    rung 6 - beans, hummus
    rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
    Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
    (on to pre-maintenance)

    Re: not what i expected

I'm not sure how many calories are in the menus you posted or what are the fat-carb-protein ratios (aim for approx. 65-5-30), but what is obvious is that you are not eating enough veggies. During induction, you should be eating three cups of veggies every day -- 2 cups from the list of salad veggies and 1 cup from the list of "other veggies" OR 3 cups from the list of salad veggies. The lists are included in this sticky: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

How much water are you drinking? Are you exercising?

In any case, not seeing a loss for 5 days in the second week of induction is not unusual. In fact, not seeing a loss for 5 days *in general* is not unusual. Many people "stall" in the second week and their weight loss restarts after they move to OWL.

Thanks for the input. I really appreciated it. I definitely get enough water and I think I get enough exercise, although it can be inconsistent. You are right about the veggies! I just can't seem to choke them all down. I will try to up it because I am ready to move on to OWL and even more veggies await me at rung one. I think I will try to be more patient and try my best to stay off the darn scale on a daily basis.

        Re: not what i expected

As Georgiana said, we do not lose weight consistently, so wait till the end of your 14 days induction then see how much weight you have lost before worrying about doing anyhting wrong

You are looking to lose a total of 24 pounds, so a loss in those 14 days of between 1.5 and 2.5 pounds would will be 'average' for you as most people lose between 5% and 10% of what they want to lose in the first 2 weeks.

You have already lost well over that amount already
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
