  • Is this normal?

Hey all... I started induction Jan. 26. I lost 10 lbs in the first two weeks (YES!) and was super excited. Then I sort of stalled out... I haven't lost any more and I've actually gained about 2 lbs!

I started my period last week and I'm wondering if that can have anything to do with the stall out?? Maybe bloating/water weight?

Also, I have a thyroid condition... could that be a problem?

My typical daily menu is as follows:

    Breakfast -
The mornings are admittedly pretty hard for me. I hate eggs, they make me want to gag, so I usually have a snack when I get to school/work like a cheese stick and some sort of vegetable (broccoli, celery, or some cucumber slices)...

    Lunch -
Typically I bring leftovers for lunch, today I had leftover chicken soup that I made myself (chicken with chicken broth and a small portion of celery and onion in the broth). I usually include some sort of vegetable here as well (broccoli, celery, cucumber slices, salad, etc).

    Dinner -
A meat of some sort... chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc. and a vegetable here too.

    Snacks -
When I need a snack I try to eat a vegetable, or a small portion of some sort of meat, a little cheese, and every once in a while a VERY small portion of sunflower seeds or almonds ( I know I'm not supposed to have these during induction so I only have a little and only once a week maybe). I also have some pork rinds, but they aren't my favorite so I don't eat those often either.

    Beverages -
Water.. water.. water. I drink a TON of water. Mostly because my mouth taste so bad all the time and I'm trying to wash out that taste. I drink some tea from time to time too, green tea, no sugar of course. I also have some diet sodas but I think I've only had 2-3 this whole time. Coffee is pretty limited as well, maybe once or twice a week.

So where am I going wrong? I've been testing my ketones regularly and I'm good there... but I'm not seeing results?? Any ideas?

    Re: Is this normal?

1st 3 questions - answers = yes, yes and yes... they can all cotribute to unsavory experiences on the bathroom scales! Be satisfied with this - it is temporary, if you are burning the fat, the water may come and go like tides, but you will still be shrinking. Take periodic readings of weight and measurement and thoug the scales may give you a roller coaster, just draw a line to connect the low spots, or better yet, stay off the scales a few days and keep up the good eating & drinking regimen. Add exercise too! (Especially important to boost metabolism).

Susan has given you some great suggestions

You haven't given us any idea of your weight-loss situation - how tall are you, what weight did you start at and what is your goal weight?

Only those with high metabolic resistance to weight-loss and those with a large number of pounds to lose seem to benefit from staying for longer than the first 14 days on induction, so your body might benefit from a move to the main weight-loss phase of Atkins now.

Many members have experienced a slowing of losses after the first 2 weeks which improved after moving to OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Do not skip breakfast. If you do not like eggs - maybe there is something else you can eat.
I know you do not like eggs but have you tried them as a drink? This is a really good recipe (try it you may be surprised - I like it with some decaf ice cubes in it)

Other suggestions: piece of leftover meat - some taco meat -- a lettuce wrap with stuff. Don't eat vegetables without some protein or fats - always aim for a combination.
