  • Too few carbs/calories?

    Hi
I put a sample menu into fitday today (today's meals)and was shocked to see that although it was percentage perfect it was incredibly low calorie and net carbs are only 10.1 . I'm not feeling hungry at all but wanted to know Wether I should be upping something for better health and if so what?

I'm taking psyllium husk, a high quality multivitamin plus a Berocca(B vits and C) type supplement a day too.

Calories. If you have a low-calorie day, followed by a high-calorie day, it's not so bad. As long as the average is fine, no need to worry about it, if you are not hungry. However, eating well below your BMR for an extended period of time might slow down your metabolism, which is definitely not something you want to happen.

Carbs. Look fine to me. It is almost impossible to follow the rules of Induction while eating close to 20 g net carbohydrate. My average during Induction was much lower too.

Menu. You are eating too many vegetables from the "Other Vegetables" list. You should be eating maximum 1 cup from this list and the rest (up to a total of 3 cups) from the "Salad Vegetables" list.

Suggestions. You could add more meat (especially for dinner, 100 g of fish is not very much), cheese (you are currently eating about 1 oz) or eggs (2 eggs in the morning instead of one) to your menu.

Thanks Georgina. I don't know if this will make a difference to what you've recommended but I do only have 1 cup of other veggies but I had trouble finding the right measurements

I basically take the cup measure and fill it up. The Chinese cabbage should actually be Bok Choy and that is the nearest I could find on fitday and Bok choy is a salad veg on the induction list. I'm not sure what it is called in the US. We have tons of those kinds of Asian greens here in Australia that I adore and would love to know how to incorporate them.

Sorry, you're right about the cabbage. I didn't see the Chinese part after it. As far as I know, bok choy and pak choi are exactly the same thing.

No worries They could well be the same thing. We have both on the shelf, along with choy sum and many others but supermarkets are forever changing names (that's why Asian greengrocers rock...well alomg with the freshness lol!). I wonder if Atkins will ever put the other greens on the allowed list? I assume they were not so popular back when the book was last revised.

Having a think about your protein suggestion perhaps I could make up a suitable cheese sauce to have with my fish. I could use the poaching liquid as a base.
A bigger breakfast will be a bit tough so I may go for a morning snack instead.
          Thanks again
