  • Induction and Communion

So I was at church, this morning and we had The Lord's Supper...well, I was putting the little unleaven cracker in my mouth when I realized...that is not even on the Atkins diet...of course that was half of it...next came the little glass of red grape juice...I partook as I will never allow something like this get in the way...but if that is classified as cheating, then I will never get past one month before I take of communion, again....oh well...I find this wrinkle interesting

    Re: Induction and Communion

I have always taken communion. It has never stalled me or caused me to go on a carb loading binge.

      Re: Induction and Communion

I almost posted this question 5 minutes ago! How eerie. I had the same thought today.

(I mentioned this to a relative who dryly said, "if you're a believer, it's flesh, not bread, and is therefore induction legal." I can't believe he said that with a straight face, but was obviously kidding).

Anyway, I'm curious to hear thoughts on this, too. Here's my two cents. While it's clearly not induction "legal," the amounts of anything in there certainly cannot be enough to cause any ill effects on ketosis, etc. I'd call it "trivial" and would probably breathe more carbs in standing in a bakery.

Our church skipped handshaking and drinking from the cup from the swine flu, which is now in my state. I don't drink from the cup anyway - that skeeves me out.

I was thinking of asking the same question! I don't ever drink from the cup, never have but I do take communion and wondered about it.

Slapshot - our church did the same today... no handshaking or drinking from the cup, swine is in our state (NH) too.

Ok, I emailed the company with 80% market share in communion wafer manufacture in North America. I'll let you know what they say...

I had communion today, too, but my prime worry is whether or not I'm right with my Maker not whether or not I'm legal with Dr. Atkins. LOL!!!!

No...not saying it was a worry at all...just a thought even humorous to me...We don't drink out of a communal cup...we have individual little cups passed out to us....Oh Slapshot...lol to your relative...I guess that means it is very high in protein...lol

                Re: Induction and Communion

Not accommodating your religious beliefs into your new lifestyle will do you more bad than having communion. Communion is not an excuse to cheat or to go on a binge. Quite the contrary -- it will give you more power to stay on track and to work towards a better health, both in a physical and in a spiritual sense.

I'm really not the most knowledgeable person on this topic, but from what I know that cracker is really tiny and so is the amount of wine you are given. Most people will not experience any cravings from them. But if you are worried about it, you can "fix" things by having some fat/protein snack afterwards.

Don't forget to count the carbs though.
