Sounds like you are doing very well.
You are right about OWL - five more carbs from veggies than you are eating now. And then five from dairy. This does not have to be cheese - it could be milk or yogurt.

joesabido - I am sorry but I am a bearer of bad news There is not such thing as no carb cheese. There are only such things as labels where portion sizes are so small that the company can legally say 0 carb - but if is cheese and contains milk it has carbs.

cookiecate - I hear you on the low fat craze - it is the same here in Canada.

Forum moderators always bear bad news...

      Just kiddin' !!!

Yeah, my word selection was poor, but I'll elaborate...

For most of the cheese that is solid and you can cut, the smallest portion on the "Nutrition Facts" label is 28g (1oz), so if the cheese says that there's zero carbs in each portion, it is safe to assume that it has at most 1g per portion, that is, per ounce.

So if Pepper-Jack (which can't be measured in ml or table spoons) cheese SAYS zero-carb, the dieter should take each ounce as 1g, since that's the worst case scenario.

So... what I meant was to make sure it SAYS zero-carb and count each ounce as 1 carb since it can't be higher if it says zero, otherwise it would say 1 or 2... or 10 (run away screaming and waving your arms if you see those)

      Cookiecate,

Well, you're close to Spain (closer than me, anyway), I'm sure you can get good spanish chorizo, you can take a couple of stir-fried (don't botter adding oil) slices with you.

Actually, for dinner I just had a pork chop with a little chorizo and mustard... sounds weird but oh boy... it was delicious... and eggs with chorizo is a popular breakfast here in Mexico.... I think that's what I'll have tomorrow!!!

Can you smell that? Yum yum!!!

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

I am particularly fond of yogurt but again I will have to be very careful that it has no sugar added. My husband will be pleased to add the milk as he believes that the only way to drink tea is with milk and he misses his very British cuppa.

I hear what you are saying Joe, I do have to be careful, chorizo is very popular over here and there are some sausages that try to pass themselves off as the great chorizo but if you look at the label (those bloomin labels) actually say chorizo TYPE.

Real chorizo are more difficult to get especially where I live where they consider garlic to be a bit foreign. In London or at least more south of where I am they get a fabulous selection of sausage from South and North Africa, and all over Europe. Oh for a decent deli I even have problems finding decent ethnic foods as although the supermarkets are national they sell what is wanted locally and here it is very provincial.

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

We fluctuate a lot with our weight. Especially us ladies. Often it is hormones - some change and the body hang on to water. I know I can get quite bloated sometimes and put on 5 lbs over night. Normal for me. Sometimes we retain water because we ate a lot of salt the day before. Body is a funny thing. It is almost always true that a sudden jump on the scale like that is not due to eating but always due to some water imbalance change. It will flush itself out.

            Hang in there.

I know liv and thank you for reminding me. I vowed I wouldn't fall for the old scales thing as they can make you feel miserable which does not help. Truth is as soon as the scale says it then it must be so and I am thinking about all the things it might be. This time however, there was nothing. Any way thank you again for giving me a sane moment.

I seem to have settled now and another pound has apparantly gone. I just feel so much better and I cannot stop telling everyone that I am sleeping properly for the first time in years that alone makes me feel ten years younger.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

Hubby and I were still not losing weight so we look again at what we were eating and it all seemed ok. We are both drinking the required amount of water and have cut out the nuts. I had bought some strawberries which we were having with cream for dessert, I decided that maybe we should knock them on the head too.

Then I started thinking about what we are drinking between water and recently I have bought rather a nice coffee machine. I have found some really good ground decaffe coffee in my supermarket and we have been drinking quite a several mugs of that each day which would be ok if we drank it black but of course I was adding cream and although I was watering the single cream down to half and half it was still too much cream. We have now changed our beverage to fruit tea. I have found that ginger and lemon is especially good. So onward we go I have bought some ketostics just to make sure we both go into ketosis.

My husband looks well and his clothes are much looser but most importantly his diabetes is being managed so we are happy although seeing the scales being kind to us would be a bonus.

                      Wow
What an inspiration you are. Way to go.
I am kind of loving cream myself so I can understand how that can get to be a lot. I have been trying decaf green tea with almond milk lately and loving it.

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

Almond milk now that sounds real tasty, I shall have to see if I can get some. I am not a great lover of green tea. We did try the soy milk but you know I just don't like it. I did try making a milk shake with soy milk and strawberries but as I said before we shall have to wait a little while before we add the berries to our diet.

Meanwhile thanks for your kind words liv.

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

We have decided that the scales are not something to put your faith into. My husband looks thinner and his diabetes medication has been lowered. Today I managed to wear a t-shirt and jeans that I have not worn since goodness knows when. My skin is improving, I suppose it is the water, I am told I look better. The prune look is going.

All in all the scales are something we turn to to confirm what we already know and when they don't confirm it, well we feel disappointed which is not logical when your clothes fit better.

We are both in ketosis and this feeling of being in control of what I eat is a wonderful feeling food has been my best friend and worst enemy for so long now I am the one calling the shots.

I feel that being able to talk to you all and get support is the key to this good feeling.

Re: Is it just down to the aspartame

We are still doing well, eating a few nuts as they ease constipation so well. Still watching the cream and aspertame, still drinking plenty of water and enjoying fruit tea instead of coffee.

My question now is that we have very little appetite. We really enjoy breakfast which is usually bacon and eggs two of each. Then we don't get hungry again until around four which is just about six hours after breakfast. We usually eat some kind of meat and salad and around eight in the evening my husband eats cheese and I eat jelly and cream but according to fitDay it doesn't seem enough but it is plenty and we are comfortably full.

Should we be changing anything. My hubs says if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Are you still losing fine? Eating your veggies? Taking a multivitamin a day
Unless you are really low on food and your portions are small I would not worry. How big is your breakfast? Jelly sounds like something that has sugar, does it?

Our portions are not that small although by the size they used to be they are probably halved. We eat our veggies with our meat usually a salad or a stir fry. I take a multivitamin each day. Usually for breakfast we have two eggs two bacon and maybe tomato and mushrooms.

Jelly is like jello made with gelatine and artificial sweetner. Only trouble about that is the only jello we can buy is made with aspertame.

                                Thanks for your encouragement liv.
