  • On 14 day induction, please check my menu

    BREAKFAST:

3 Turkey Bacon Strips (0 carbs)
3 eggs over easy (0 carbs)
    1/2 avacado
    3 GLASSES OF WATER

seperate Vitamin suppliments of Taurine, L-Tyrosene, and B-12
2 Tonalin-CLA (this is basically safflower oil, so no carbs)

*Snacking on a beef patty through the day

    LUNCH:

    Turkey Burger Pattie (0 carbs)
1/2 beef patty lightly sprinkled with lemon pepper
    1/2 avacado
    2 GLASSES OF WATER
2 gelcaps of fish oil (2,000 mg)

*snacking on the same beef patty through the day

    DINNER:

2 breasts of chicken either fried or baked (0 carbs)
1 or 2 Chicken hotdogs ( 1 carb per hotdog)
1/2 avacado (I really like avacados)
    3 GLASSES OF WATER

Today is exactly 1 week...I did drink a 0 carb soda water because I didn't realize the aspertame in it... I took a chewable multi-vitamin suppliment once that had aspertamine but have since stopped.

Have not noticed any weight changes yet...sometimes I will eat tuna mixed with mayo instead for dinner or lunch but this is pretty much all I eat and I am very happy with this (believe it or not)

How is this menu for induction?

2 things....you're only allowed 1/2 avocado per day and there are no other veggies mentioned.

    Have you read the book?

I'm weaning myself off of avacados ...no haven't read the book just ordered it today on amazon (for $3.00!) Guess I will go into ketosis once I am on 1/2 avacado a day? How's the rest of the menu look? (Do I have to have veggies to go into ketosis?)

Yes, veggies are an absolute must. Until you receive the book, check out the links on the Induction forum -- there's a ton of knowledge and tips to be had.

        Good luck in your journey!

Also, eggs have .6g carbs, so I'd count 3 eggs as 2 carbs.

Yes you need some guide lines here.

Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.

I read that I can liberally eat eggs...but based on one of the comments I should count carbs in eggs (so that is not liberal) ?

Eggs do have carbs and we have to count them. But still even when limited to 20 carbs (and most of those carbs should be veggie carbs) it still leaves a lot of room for eggs. I think.

that's great info, thank you very much. If it wasn't for this forum I would still be doing atkins wrong! I got rid of the chicken hotdogs, found there is corn syrup in them (what the heck???)

Would anyone know if it would be ok to take a milk thistle suppliment (caps) during induction ?

Milk thistle is from a fruit from my understanding, however I did some research and found

Milk Thistle (1 pill AM & PM) Calorie, Fat, Carb, and Protein Information at Sparkpeople.com

would it be alright to take this capsule suppliment?

PS I lost 2 pounds since yesterday!

I think you can do milk thistle if you like. Should not be a problem with it.

Re: On 14 day induction, please check my menu

Ok just wanted to make an update, last week (to today) I weighed 196, today I weigh 191 . Its not a whole lot of weight, but at least its something.

Three days ago I was 192 and now (three days later) I lost just 1 pound. I haven't been cheating, in fact I am closer to 10 carbs a day than I am to 20. Here's what my current menu has been:

                      Breakfast:

                      3 Eggs
                      2 Turkey Bacon Strips
                      3 Glasses of water

Lunch: Two 1/2 pound burger patties
                      Spoon of Mayo
Chicken breast sliced into strips fried in Olive Oil
                      2 Glasses of water

                      Dinner:

Chicken dashed lightly with lemon pepper
                      Turkey Pattie
                      1 egg
2 or 3 glasses of water

thats just an example (I am going to get some bok choy in the mix after payday)

I am also taking: 3 Fiber Pills (Psyllum husk, no added sugars or anything) , about 5 fish oil caps, 3 Tonalin-CLA (safflower Oil) , 1 Milk Thistle capsule every other day, a daily Multivitamin and L-Tyrosine, Taurine and B-12 .

If I'm reading correctly, you're eating 2 burger patties and chicken for lunch? You're eating a large amount of protein and not a veggie in sight! Also, staying at 10 carbs per day instead of 20 isn't going to make the weight come off faster especially if it's not the right carbs.

You should read the book and all the induction materials available on this site. The plan works if you follow it.

                          Hi Echo,
If you're not eating your veggies, you're not doing Atkins correctly. Here are the guidelines to eating vegetables at each stage of Atkins.
Liv gave you some great guidelines to go by. I suggest you read the "Rules of Induction" and "What foods can be eaten during Induction."
As you can see, you should be getting the majority of your carbs in by eating veggies from the 2 acceptable veggie list. 2 cups from the salad veggie list and 1 cup from the "other veggie list" or just 3 cups of salad veggies.
Rather that protein being your main course at meal time, it's the veggies that are the main course and the protein as a side dish.

If you are doing Induction, you need to eat a minimum of 12 NET carbs of veggies each day.
If you are in any phase of OWL, you need to eat a minimum of 17 NET carbs of veggies each day.
If you are on Maintenance, you need to eat a minimum of 22 NET carbs of veggies each day.
