  • Atkins Bars - Induction

I really feel as though I've been duped and I feel really silly for not getting more information on these Atkins bars before I bought (and consumed) them. I am on extended induction and I bought some Atkins bars a couple days ago. I have been feeling sooooo great during induction - my energy has increased, I have not at all felt hungry, I have not had any problems period. I love the new way of eating as it seems to really agree with my body. But for the two days that I ate these bars (two on one day and one the next day) I developed headaches, lethargy, and have been swollen (particularly noticeable in my fingers). I decided to research these bars on this site (should have done this BEFORE purchasing!).

Needless to say, no more bars for me. But I'm wondering what to do right now to make myself feel better sooner - should I up my water? (I'm at about 80 ounces) Also, I did some menu planning at the Atkins site and am now feeling pretty distrustful of their "net carbs" - anyone have any tips on where to do some menu planning that would be best for induction?

Maybe you have a soy or wheat sensitivity? One of things that Atkins had done for me is to teach be more about how I react to certain products. I don't know which bars you consumed. They seem to be different. But yes best to stick to whole foods.

Just go back to eating whole foods and you should be fine. Never hurts to drink plenty of water though.

I don't know about another menu planning site. I am sorry. You may still be able to use that one. They are not going to trick you on other things than the products they are selling so watch out for those. They also do a bit different thing when in comes to how they tell people to eat veggies. Here we follow the rule that you eat 3 cups in induction.

Just take the acceptable foods list, plan some meals and then enter all the foods in FitDay. If you make a recipe, you can compute the nutritional info for it using NutritionData or an empty day in FitDay. Even if you use the recipes from atkins[dot]com (check that they are all Induction-legal, for e.g. no alcohol even in cooking), it's still better to calculate your own nutritional info because you're definitely not using the same brand of ingredients the guys who came up with the recipes had used.

This is the acceptable foods list from DANDR 2002: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

        Re: Atkins Bars - Induction

When I first started I got my acceptable food list and went through and made a menu for the first 2 days. I wrote down Breakfast: and listed what foods I would be eating -- the same for lunch and dinner. I tried not to eat the same foods over and over the first week so I didn't get bored (like I always did with WW, Jenny Craig, South Beach, etc).....After I got the first couple days menus done I did the same thing for day 3 through 7.

The night before I would make sure everything I had on my next days menu was in the house (which I knew it was because I had just been to the store), and if something needed to be thawed I got it out to be ready for the next day.

If I was hungry inbetween meals I found something legal to munch on (I had turkey dipped in mayo for the 1 time I needed something extra).

I realize this is an older post -- but I'm sure someone will come across this and hopefully the information given will be helpful.

The best thing you can do is get organized and stay organized.....that way there isn't as much chance of something going wrong.

        Good luck!!
