  • Where can I tweak my menu?

    Hey all - I had a great first week and lost 10 lbs and then another 4 over the next week. It's been 1 1/2 weeks later and I haven't dropped anything else so I'm thinking I'm either stalled out because my body is in a state of shock and will need to adjust or my menu may need tweeking. Take a look...

    Breakfast:

    2 eggs poached
    2 small pork sausage patties (Jimmy Dean type)

    Lunch:

    2 Chicken thighs - seasoned with herbs
    2 cups shredded romaine lettuce
    2 tbsp Marie's Blue Cheese drsg.

    Snack:
    Handful of pork rinds (sorry not a very accurate measure - probably about a cup or so)

    Dinner:

    10 oz Chuck Steak -seasoned with herbs
    1 cup broccoli
    1 tsp butter

    Dessert:

    1 cup sugar-free jello
    2 tbsp of fresh whipped cream

    Drinks:
    100 oz water
    12 oz Diet Coke (the kind with Splenda not aspartame)

    Medication:
    I take a multi-vitamin, additional B12, hydrochlorothiazide (water pill for hypertension), topomax (preventative for migraines), lamictal (bipolar - not psychotropic though and actually is one of the only that DOESN'T cause weight gain), birth control pills. Eventually I am hoping to discontinue the water pill, but the rest are a "forever" thing.

    Is there anything I need to change? This is a typical menu for me. I just need confirmation that I'm doing it "right"...

    Are you using fitday Sarah? I think what I would recommend is putting it all in fitday and then tell us how it looked. What were your calories, fat, carbs, protein like.

      For that day I had 63% Fat, 33% protein, 4% carb - right about where it should be.

        Your menu looks perfect. You just need to be patient. Your body will adjust and start losing again. Just make sure that you only eat only until you are full. As you lose weight you will start eating less food. Good luck.

          Well it looks great overall and you probably just need to wait a bit. However, if you really want to go all out, 100% on plan I'd suggest taking a look at the sausage. I don't know your brand but you compared it to Jimmie Dean's. Their website lists Premium Pork Regular sausage as having "PORK, WATER, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF THE FOLLOWING: CORN SYRUP, SALT, SPICES, SUGAR, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE." It'd be nice to find one without the corn syrup and sugar.

              Total Cals: 1,540
              Fat grams: 108
              Net Carbs: 9.3
              Protein: 121

              My BMR is 2246 so I try to keep it around there but some days it's hard to come close because I'm eating so much less than I was pre-atkins and I'm not going to shove in calories "just because"...Do you think that's too low for someone who was probably eating about 4,000 cal/day BEFORE Atkins?? I don't really know what I should be aiming for.

                Unless you are starving I think you are good on calories - you do not want to go lower though -
                Maybe your body need more stuff -
                Are you taking vitamin and mineral supplements?
                I don't know if you eat just romain and broccoli every day - but I really encourage you to increase your veggie carbs (It is very likely going to help) So try peppers, mushrooms, squashes, spinach, pumpkin, jicama - The more variation the more stuff your body will get and it will feel happier and let go of some fat for you.

                I think your menu is pretty good. I would watch that sausage as grant says.

                  is this Jello brand or Hunt's brand? Jello brand is made with aspartame - Hunts is made with Splenda. I can't eat either because I don't loose when I use this product.

                    Thanks everyone for the feedback. I only bought one small box of the sausage so when it's gone, I won't be buying it again but I'm not one to waste food either and being it's less than 2%, I don't think I'll set myself back THAT much. However, I also don't want to continue buying something that isn't "pure" either. So, lesson learned and I'm done with that stuff! I'll stick to my bacon! Whatever I'm doing must be working because I lost another 3 lbs! I must be a "whoosher" because I'll be at a standstill then all of the sudden overnight practically I drop several lbs all at once. I'll also look into stepping up the veggie carbs a bit to bring me closer to my 20. That will probably also be helpful and certainly get me more nutrients! Thanks again everyone!
