  • Quick Review, Please?

    Breakfast:
2 eggs with spices and herbs (no sugar, of course)
    2 bacon
    1 cup Tulsi tea (herbal)

    Lunch:
Went to a deli with some people. I ordered the Chef Salad. Didn't have a measuring cup, but I think it worked like this:
    1.5 oz cheese
    1 cup salad greens
    turkey
    ham
olive oil (nothing else as a topping)
2 small half-sour pickles (I would marry them if I could)
    1 cup decaf coffee
2 half 'n half cups (not 2 cups, but two of those little cups)

    Dinner:
I plan to have some kind of a chicken sautee with either a cup of salad or half a cucumber.

I'm pretty confident in my menu, but the only areas I would question are:
    1) The half 'n half. It wasn't "real" cream-- contains chemicals to keep the shelf-life longer. Not crazy about consuming chemicals, but the deli didn't have fresh cream.

    2) I'm assuming the 2 small pickles (not gherkin-sized, but smaller than a "normal" pickle) count as a vegetable, but I've also read that pickles are more considered condiments, sort of like a "free" food-- don't want to short-change my body on the veggies it needs. (To all of you who don't know... Batampte half-sour pickles are the best. If you like pickles you should really try them. They're a great low-carb snack.)

Thanks to all of you who review all this stuff!

    Re: Quick Review, Please?

How much pure water are you drinking each day? The only thing you are showing are tea and coffee.

Your menu looks pretty good - just make sure you get 2 cups of "salad" veggies and 1 cup of "other" veggies each day. Good to see you aren't to your limit on cheese!! And if the pickles start bothering you (they probably won't) look for Mt. Olive brand sugar free pickles -- they are wonderful!

Good luck -- keep on this track and you'll have great success!!

It looks good to me too.
Yes that coffee cream is a concern. I would avoid it if I could
And the other possible concern is the potentiality of sugars in the deli meats

You're doing well in getting a lot of veggies in.

        Re: Quick Review, Please?

Thanks, Carole!!! I am trying to be very "good" and am drinking at least 8-8 oz. glasses of water a day. A little nice surprise is that I thought my cup held 8 oz and it turns out it holds 12 oz, so I was getting more than enough.

Liv, you're absolutely right. Turns out, ALL the bacon I've consumed since my first day of induction has sugar in it, but it's not sweet. I can't believe I didn't look for sugar and only looked at the carb content, which, of course is listed as 0.

Also, today after the pork chop incident I picked up a rotisserie chicken in order to have a nice protein source that I can pick at all day without having to worry about running out and buying food. I noticed that one of the last ingredients is dextrose, however, I didn't get the "Touch 'O Honey" version-- I just got plain and it still has dextrose in it. I didn't eat the skin because I figured if anything is going to have dextrose in it it would be mostly the skin.

        On a more frustrating note...

I went out to lunch today. Ordered the pork chops from a nice chain restaurant near here. I've had these pork chops before and they're great. When I tasted them, I noticed a "caramelized" flavor. Note that they didn't have any sort of glaze on them. Upon questioning the server, he explained that the restaurant soaks the chops in a brine beforehand and he found out that they use sugar in the brine. I literally spit out the third bite of pork I was eating and ate about 1 & 1/2 cups of sauteed spinach. I figure I ate about 2 oz. of the pork chop. I hope it doesn't hurt my induction, but it's such a hard lesson learned because when you go out to eat, you figure you're getting a pork chop when you order a pork chop, especially if there's no mention of things like barbeque sauce or glaze. For instance, when you order a steak, you don't have to ask if it's first soaked in sugar

It's really hard to eat out. I'm so glad I'm not allergic to nuts or gluten because I think I'd be dead already (as much as restaurants "spice things up" with hidden ingredients in the food they serve).

So, here's my menu for today so far:

1 cup herbal Tulsi tea (no sweetener)
        1 oz. mozzerella

2 oz. of dreaded pork chops (lol)
1 & 1/2 cups sauteed spinach (equals about 8 bites-- didn't have a measuring cup to figure it out exactly)
Rotisserie chicken from the grocery store (no skin, for fear of sugar)
Plain pork rinds (note to those who eat them-- check the ingredients!!!)

I'm going to have a cup of decaf-- a small cup with a little REAL cream that I bought today.
