  • Induction Help on Menu

Hey everyone. I have been on induction for two weeks. Since I have so much to lose I want to continue it for months. I have been at the same weight for 5 days now where normally I would be down at least a couple pounds every 5 days so I am getting concerned.

Breakfast - Atkins Shake 1net gram of carbs
Lunch - 2 hard boiled eggs, 3 small pieces of low to zero carb cheese (muenster and Havarti)

Dinner - Salad which has romaine lettuce, cucumbers, chives, hard boiled egg, cheese, bacon bits (made fresh) olive oil with salt & pepper

    Breakfast is always a shake,

Lunch varies but many times I am not even hungry for lunch but sometimes will have dinner leftovers. Meat and veggie

Dinner always have the salad, proteins I eat, COD, Meatloaf (no breadcrumbs or catchup), chicken breast, steak

I am pretty sure I am under my 20 net carbs a day so I am confused as to why I am not losing anymore. Please help.

    Re: Induction Help on Menu

You lost 12 lbs already. That is very good. We do not lose constantly on this diet. There are some stages where things stand still and then they go again. You should not expect weightloss every day or every 5 days.

I will throw in my 5 cents about your menu: It was pretty good. I just have a couple of things for you to think about.

I think you are eating too little. You need more food. More food will make your body feel better and it will go into fat burning. Have some real protein at breakfast. Some more at lunch and dinner and add some fat to your menu.

You need to eat 3 cups of veggies and have most of your net carbs come from veggies.

A shake is not a meal. On atkins you are supposed to eat whole foods. So start trying to eat good wholesome food. I stalled on shakes and cut them out. Many others have similar experiences. They are just loaded with sweeteners. You may use them as occasional convenience maybe.

You should try to spread out your 3 cups of veggies and have some at lunch.

Alos Atkins says to count cheese as one carb an ounce. There is no such thing as zero carb cheese. Labels may sometimes claim zero because they have low serving sizes and if it is less that 0.5 they can legally say it is zero. Do not trust anything to be zero carb with exception of meat and fish and clean water.

Speaking of clean water, you did not tell us what you are drinking besides the shake.

You need to count to make sure.

You could be not losing because you're not eating enough food.

You could be not losing because that's what happens.

My first guess is that it's because you're not eating enough net carbs or calories.

Hi Carolina - Congrats on that 12 lbs! That is great for your first 2 weeks!

I agree with Liv on everything. Do you use fitday to punch in calories and carbs? What is your exercise routine like? Remember that even the little bit (10 minute spurts) will help to move that metabolism.

Also, I did use shakes because they were easy, but they did stall me. I made up egg muffins and have them instead. Water consumption plays a big role in my losing as well!

I'm sure there are others who will chime in and see things.

You are doing great, don't give up!

i agree with the others on the shakes. those and the bars seemed to hurt me even though they claimed to be okay on induction. i also agree with spreading your veggies out. i wasn't doing that until i came to this site and that seemed to help.

for breakfast i have been doing 3 scrambled eggs with diced pepper, onion and tomatoe (i cup total). i also chop up 1 turkey burger and toss it in there with an ounce of shredded cheddar. i mix it all up and it is like a skillet you get out at a restaurant. 32 ounces of water goes good with it!

I am thinking those shakes and bars are bad too. I noticed I stopped losing once I started taking them. Its just that the shakes are so much easier in the morning to have than breaking out the pan and making eggs. I like my eggs sunny side up so I will have to find another way to get my veggies in the morning. Not big on omelets.

I also think I am not drinking enough water. I don't understand why its so important. What is the role of so much water?

              Hi,

Hope these links help a little. You get used to drinking the water after a while, especially if you spread it out, and plan X oz of water every so many hours, or whatever. Some water schedule so that you are not trying to force it down by the end of the day.LOL!

Thank you. Yes I need to drink more water. Today I forced myself to have eggs for breakfast. Two sunny side up, 4 slices of sausage. Lunch was NOT hungry so had the Atkins protein bar, for dinner meatloaf and lots of asparagus. No cheese today!! I need convenience with my meals. So perhaps some prepared salads from the grocery store would help. I am realizing how expensive Atkins is. WOW. Its so much cheaper to eat crap food LOL. Thanks for all the input. So glad I found this board.

                  >>Lunch was NOT hungry so had the Atkins protein bar,>>

                  These aren't meal replacements.

                  >>meatloaf>>

                  Did you make it yourself?

                  >>ots of asparagus.>>

You only have vegetables at one meal. That's not good ... it's best to spread them out during the day.

                  >>some prepared salads from the grocery store >>

It would be less expensive if you made your own. Prepared is always more expensive.

                  >>I am realizing how expensive Atkins is>>

Many of us find it's not.

If that's all you ate today, I'm surprised you're not starving ... I would be.

                  You're reading the book, right?

                    Re: Induction Help on Menu

I've also found it easier to cook and prepare as much as I can ahead of time. So on weekends, I make a number of things and just reheat them during the week. This is much cheaper too (and better for you). The key is planning. It doesn't have to be more expensive if you plan and prepare ahead of time. Eating healthy is worth it!

Carolina - member "Brook" has a great breadown of getting organized ahead of time. I also do organize myself.

On Sunday I make up some meats and freeze some or baggie them for meals. I make up 2 salads, one for Monday lunch, one for Tuesday. I don't go any longer because I don't care of the veggie to get soggie or anything. I put lots of good things in my salads, cukes, peppers (red, yellow, green, a little crumbled up bacon (real) and I do put some shredded cheese on it (measured out). Its great to have some things ahead, you pop your head into the fridge in the morning - grab and go.

If you have a fridge at work, keep some things there for those days where you may be hungier. I do this and its great to have a piece of veggie to snack on rather than torturing myself with a vending machine.

Also - you don't have to have eggs for breakfast. Sometimes I'll have a turkey burger or I've even had leftover fish and broccoli. It doesn't matter really....

                      You can do this!

                        Re: Induction Help on Menu

Everyone has helped a lot. I am having veggies with two of the three meals now. I lost another two pounds and feel like I am back on track. I find myself being not really hungry, my stomach is never growling but I make myself eat all three meals. I think that is helping. I am never stopping my metabolism, it keeps going because I don't go into starving mode. I am drinking more water and that is helpful.

Someone asked if I make the meatloaf myself, yes. No breadcrumbs. I found a great way to make it tasty with out the need for them. I have taken the time to make myself breakfast every day and have not had a single shake or bar.

I am very proud of myself for not cheating on this diet once. To think I was supposed to go in for Lap Band surgery tomorrow and I decided to give Atkins a try instead. I am happy with my decision so far!!! Thanks everyone.

Carolinagirl, I'm proud of you for giving this a try before surgery. I was supposed to do the same thing and I decided to give it "one last try..." and have done really well over the past year and avoided surgery and possible complications. You will feel so much BETTER about yourself for having gotten healthy and you will learn so much more about yourself doing it this way. Good for you!
Lost 100lbs+ since May '09 with a variety of methods, calorie counting, low fat, low carb (not Atkins strict), zig zagging, etc. Would switch up diet and exercise as I stalled to reboot loss. Prior to Atkins I was about 1000cals/day, exercising fairly hard and NOT losing...so here I am to finish the job.
