  • 1st rung OWL menu - this ok?

Breakfast - 2 fried eggs in olive oil, black coffee with 1 sucralose sweetner
Snack - 30g mature cheddar cheese/a few sticks of red pepper
Lunch - Chicken breast with garlic butter wrapped in pancetta with handful of salad (raddichio, lambs lettuce, chinese leaf, red chard)
Snack - Sugar free jell-o/jelly (depending if you're english or american!)
Dinner - Lamb steak with roasted veggies (red onion, pepper, asparagus) in olive oil and rosemary
    Lots of H20!

Just an example of daily food - is that alright?
Probably would be a few more similar snacks in there if I'm honest!
    Thanks

It's hard to know if it's alright without quantities and/or net carbs. What's "lots of H20" exactly?

If you eat snacks, then you should list them.

Lol. It's kind of funny because I was reading your menu trying to figure out if I should say something about the sugar-free sweetened snacks. I was going to say that as long as they don't give you any problems then they are probably OK. Then I noticed in your status you say "just caved and had chocolate for the first time in 3 week - help!". That is exactly the type of thing that cutting out all sweeteners can help you with. It seems like even the fake sweetener can cause cravings so you may want to consider dropping those for a couple of weeks and seeing how you feel.

As far as the rest of the menu goes it looks good overall. The big problem though is that the number of veggies you are eating is really key and your counts are vague enough that it's hard to say whether you are eating enough or not.

Lots of H20 = lots of water
Yes I think one of my problems has been being vague with the counting, but as I don't have so much to lose my book told me I didn't have to be quite as strict.
Thanks for the advice on sweetners! I'll try cutting those out over the next week. I was very disappointed when I ate some chocolate as I haven't touched any "illegal" foods over the past 3 weeks, and although I haven't counted as precisely as I could of I thought I've been pretty strict with myself :/
Oh well, I'll make some adjustments and persevere - thanks!

            1. I've never heard that you need to count water.

You really misunderstand me, I have no intention of making this a "quick fix", merely New atkins is more flexible about more through the stages when there is less than 2 stone to lose, you still have to go through all the stages and as I repeatedly tell my judgemental family "atkins is more of a lifestyle than a diet" Not a quick fix

Counting water is very important and so is ensuring that you are measuring out exact amounts of veggies that you are consuming. That will make it much easier for senior members or the mods to help you and say "yes" or "no" on if your menu is up to par.

Rule #11 of DANDR 2002 (which is the book followed here):

                11. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day to hydrate your body, avoid constipation and flush out the by-products of burning fat.

If you follow that book you have to make sure you weigh veggies and count all the carbs. You are going to need at least 12 net carb of veggies.

We follow Dandr and say 3 cup of veggies. On Dandr we are careful with aspartame the sweetener in jello. And the rule on DANDR is to drink 64 oz of water. Most people find this to be very helpful

DANDR is Dr Atkins last book: Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution from 2002.

                    And in your book:

"• Drink at least eight 8-ounce portions of approved beverages each day to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Include two cups of broth (not low sodium), one in the morning and one in the afternoon, in this count."

Thanks for the advice I'm counting carbs more closely from today, especially as I need to work out what has slowed my0 weightloss when everything was going so well!

Ah yes I see now guess I'll have to start counting water as well!
I have read DANDR as well I just haven't bought it for myself yet, found that new atkins suited my needs better but I don't see why that means I can't still use this site, the principles are the same, in fact I found there really wasn't that much diffeerence having read both books, surely this site should support people on all forms of atkins who ask for help and advice?

We are not throwing anyone out for sure
But we base our advice on DANDR and all the long timers here and mods and stuff used DANDR as their book so we are very comfortable with it.

it is very natural to have a scale weight loss hesitation known as PISS on any weight loss plan. You still should see the inches of body fat being burned off though if you are taking your measurements.

One thing about not counting your carbs as closely per the new book is that when doing atkins everybody has an individual carb limit above which they will not lose weight. this is why on the 2002 book OWl is almost as strict as induction and adding back measured amounts of carbs in a controlled manner helps each of us find that number so we can be atkinas goalies.
