  • Please review my husband menu.....

We have started Atkins and my husband has gained a pound and is disappointed. I have said he isn't eating enough. He thinks he is - (men!!) anyway can you review his menu and give us ideas. I think his calorie count is way to low.

    Thanks!

Not sure but it kind of works if you copy it in. Sometimes the board gets it wrong

So my issue with your husband's menu was that that is too little food for a guy (or even a girl) Is your husband active?
Need to eat a bit more
      But good on veggies
Make sure to remind your husband to drink plenty of water

Were you able to see the menu on fitday?

He is 6 feet and weights 276. So I know he is way low on calories.
Any suggestions on adding calories to keep the ratios in line?

        Thanks.

          1100 calories isn't enough, that's for sure.

Rather than worry about ratios (which aren't a fundamental of Atkins!), look at his net carbs.

          He doesn't have enough.

Rather than having so much lettuce, why not cut that down and add some more nutritionally dense vegetables. Other than the red pepper, the vegetables are "carb light".

What is "cheese", exactly? You would do better to identify it, rather than using some vague "cheese".

Is that enough meat for him? It wouldn't be for me, and I'm 5'2".

Don't worry so much about ratios. He should focus on getting proper nutrition. He needs more protein and more fat... and he could have more carbs, too. There are vegetables more nutritious than iceberg lettuce.

How much water is he drinking?

You might explain to your husband that when he doesn't eat enough calories his body will slow its metabolism to match try to match the input. He needs to at least match his BMR (basal metabolic rate). Fitday can calculate it if you want.
