Re: In Progress Pics...
Thanks for the replies... Question for you guys that do exclusively atkins... When you stop dieting do you go back to a normal amount of carbs? I found that when I do Atkins the weight comes off real fast, but at the same time this weight seems to return a lot easier too.
I have been dieting for about 6 months as I went from 235 to 190, but during this time even when I stopped dieting (and I would eat pretty unhealthy at times) I never gained any weight at any point, just stop losing sometimes. In the past with Atkins, if I lost anything, it would seem to come back a lot easier. That's why I found doing the Atkins 1 week per month was better for me. Do you guys find this to be true, or can you keep the weight off once you come off Atkins?

Re: In Progress Pics...
Marlon, the thing with Atkins is that it's not a diet--so we never stop! It's just a way to eat healthy.
Atkins is NOT just induction--induction is only followed for 2 weeks, and then you begin OWL. OWL introduces "new" foods like dairy, nuts, berries, melon, wine, beans, other fruits, starchy veggies, and whole grains. This is the main weightloss phase of Atkins, and it prepares you to follow the plan indefinitely. Because I've done OWL properly, I know what foods I can eat, which foods to avoid, and which foods really make me feel my best! Apart from my handful of "trigger" foods, the only things I don't eat now are white sugar, white rice, and white flour. Everything else is fair game!
If you quit Atkins and go back to your old ways of eating, it's almost a guarantee that you will gain the weight back. That's not specific to just Atkins though, I think that can be said for ANY eating plan. To be successful and to maintain your loss, you have to stay on the program. The best thing about Atkins is that it never feels like a diet, so there's really very little temptation to go off! I mean, on what other programs can I eat fresh cheese, nuts, fruits, steak, apples, whole grain bread, wine, huge salads, butter, and cream?
So, long story short--you don't "come off" Atkins. Atkins is not a diet. It's a healthy eating plan that is meant to be followed for a lifetime. If you haven't already, check out Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) and read up on the induction, as well as the other phases of the diet (there are 4).
I don't ever plan on quitting Atkins...I feel too good and love the food too much to ever quit!

Re: In Progress Pics...
I see what you are saying... When I do the Atkins it is pretty resticted so it actually feels like a diet (which is why I keep it to a week per month), whereas just doing a normal calorie defecit with healthy foods doesnt feel like a "diet" since I can eat most foods.
But I see your point about that restricting diet being only for the first 2 weeks. I've never really dieted prior to this as I always kept my weight up for football and rugby, so I havent had experience with gaining weight back after losing it. But the main thing I am happy about now is that once this weight is coming off it is staying off. Even if I eat bad for a week I havent really gained any weight, just stayed the same.
I think the key to any diet is for it to not feel like one so you can just keep it up for the long term.

Re: In Progress Pics...
There's no reason to be an ascetic about Atkins. True, your food choices are somewhat restricted during Induction, but that does NOT mean you deprive yourself! If you're hungry, make sure to eat. Eat your 3 cups of veggies each day, eat no more than 3-4 oz. of cheese, eat your special foods, and eat until satisfied of proteins and fat.
One of the biggest things about Atkins for me is NOT about weight loss. It's about FINALLY learning how to eat properly. Before, I had horrible habits, and was a bored eater, a binge eater, and an emotional eater. Now I have learned how to feed my hunger and ENJOY what I eat, rather than feeling guilty about it. It's more of an all-inclusive healthy habits plan, rather than just weight loss.
One thing I want to mention--going in and out of ketosis like that isn't the greatest thing for a body. The more you switch in and out of fat-burning mode, the less effective it becomes. I would either stick with Atkins as a plan, or find something else, because Atkins is NOT a crash diet. If you are doing Induction for a week and then eating whatever you feel like, that's not Atkins. That's MarlonKins.
