  • A New Year, a new me

I'm putting my before picture up mostly because I've been such a big fan of this site and I'm hoping it will keep me motivated to be more successful this time around. This isn't the first time I've done Atkins, but it has been the only way of eating that has worked for me. I am currently starting at 260lbs and my first go on Atkins I got down to about 220lbs. That was in 2006 and I have miserably gone up and down since then.

Just a brief story about myself so that maybe I can help others that may be in the same place I am. I have been heavy all my life. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the age of 11, and soon was on high blood pressure medication thereafter. My first attempt with Atkins got me off both my medications and I haven't needed them since. In 8th grade I weighed about 310lbs, and my heaviest weight was 325lbs at the age of 16. I am now 22 years old and I'm just so tired of the weight that I know this time will be it for me. Oh, I am also a pastry chef so most people think I'm crazy when I've told them I lost weight not eating carbs

I really want to thank all the great people that I have seen post their stories on this forum. It has been a wealth of not only inspiration, but knowledge on the Atkins way of life. I plan to keep posting as I progress. I wish everyone the best on their journeys.

Welcome ArtRockGrl. I am also beginning my new Journey on Low Carb. I have been on and off for the past 2 years always gaining more weight because I always go back to the carb CRAP! I am on day 4 now and doing well. I wish you all of the luck on your Journey. You are a very beautiful young women

      Welcome to ADBB!

You have a beautiful "before" picture...not everyone can say that (namely me...I couldn't look that cute if I tried!). You'll do great with your motivation. Stay strong and join in around the board....that's what helps keep you focused.

      Besti wishes!

Re: A New Year, a new me

        artrockgrl, welcome to !

You look so cute in your pictures! I agree with Lisa, most of us don't look that good in our before pictures.

First of all, way to go on being 65 pounds lighter than your heaviest weight. You are that much closer to your ultimate goal. It's great that you are no longer on meds.

Stick with this, stay strong, and NEVER give up. If you ever fall off...get right back on. You are still so young and if you make these changes now you will enjoy so many benefits for the rest of your life...not being controlled by cravings, not constantly thinking about food, being at a healthy weight and avoid obesity related diseases, be at a healthy weight when you have children (if that's what you want), etc, etc.

Since your job will keep you surrounded by temptation you need to protect yourself by PLANNING. Bring low carb meals and snacks to work with you. I suggest bringing more than you think you need in case temptation strikes ~ you'll have good, low-carb food at hand to get rid of the cravings/temptations.

Keep coming to the board, reading and posting. There is great support and motivation here.

Cheers to a new you in 2009!!!

Re: A New Year, a new me

I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind comments. My first few days of induction were rough, but I am now on day 3 of a clean induction and so far I have lost 4 lbs I'm working hard to get to 230lbs sometime in March and I think I'll make it. I hope everyone else keeps up their great work!

Welcome to the board artrockgrl and thank you for sharing your beautiful pics with us! I agree with Lisa and Clogger...not everyone's before pics are as nice as yours....that would include myself, I'm surprised my camera didn't call it a day and retire the poor thing!!!!! My before pics are HORRIBLE!!!!

Congratulations on your 4 lb loss so far, that is wonderful!!!! Keep it up, I know the first few days into Induction can be a bit rough...it's gets better, you'll see that soon.

                  All the best,
