    Re: Gota goal to reach!

where do you live.....what is the weather like where you are. you should try to incorporate exercise into your life as opposed to the atkins diet, which mind is.....many consider a way of life. pushups, situps, walking....those are just the basic ones. but there are many things you can do

I live in Arkansas, probably not as cold as most places on this post but cold enough for me haha! I take the stairs at work and I do some light weight exercises to tone up but I get bored with it pretty easily. I've managed to lose 12 pounds this month but I know the closer it gets to goal the slower it will come off.

        Re: Gota goal to reach!

do you enjoy exercise? to win this bet......being that we are working within a specific time frame.....i would just doi as much walking......any kinda movement really, as you can. pushups and weightlifting are great but i wouldnt do them now.......you dont wanna deal with the whole muscle weighs more than fat thing if for some reason your not losing. you can redistribute your weight and look fantastic by adding muscle but the reading on the scale is what will get you to the keys. so cardio is the name of your game.......i would try to work up to where i am able to walk or run 60 minutes a day, if you have the time in your schedule.

          Re: Gota goal to reach!

          Bree!!
You've gotta start cardio and weight lifting! Do you have a weight lifting bench at home? You can start slow. You'll be amazed how quickly your muscles recover from ignoring them! I understand that it's not exciting but I've been doing it for several weeks and I'm soooo starting to see results! I lift, walk and do the rowing machine. Lunges and squats are easy exercises and even more effective with light weights (dumb bells) in your hands. I put the weight bench right next to the TV in the living room. Is it in the way? Heck yeah, it is! And you know what? That makes me use it! I watch the idiot box while I work out and it makes the time fly. There were a couple of weeks where I felt like I was in weight loss limbo after working out really hard but now it seems, a few weeks later, it's all paying off. The weights will also help with "skin sag" that comes with losing weight, losing lots of weight AND losing it fast. When you do hit the 150's, you don't want to be successful at 150ish and be untoned and flabby. So, a site I go to for inspiration/information is Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site.. It's great. There's a lot of info there for women too! Check out the female transformation pages. Great inspiration! Click on exercises on the left side of the page and you can pick any muscle group you want to develop and it'll show you tons of exercises you can do to work that area. Lifting weight is much like Atkins...start now! You'll be so glad you did in a few weeks! Don't start now....you'll wish you had, I promise! Building muscles also gives you another metabolic advantage! Muscles burn more calories all day and night long than fat! I'll take TWO metabolic advantages over one, any day! There are ways to tone and not bulk up. Less weight and more repetitions will tone you like crazy. Increasing weight and doing fewer repetitions will bulk you up. Go research it on that site. It debunks many of the myths that exist about women and bodybuilding. Start now! You'll be so glad you did!

Also, don't fool yourself into thinking taking the stairs at work is new and different and it will be enough. I read a lot of posts where people think doing what they've always done...somehow counts as exercise. You have to really amp it up for your body to get the point....this is your new norm. That goes back to giving yourself two metabolic advantages. Remember, doing what we've always done brought us here. It didn't work. We have to commit to doing a 180 to take care of ourselves. PM me, sometime. I'll do whatever I can to help you out!!

            Re: Gota goal to reach!

Thanks for the advice you guys! I'll just have to get my lazy can back on the treadmill and incorporate some weights. I have a great little black dress that hangs right by my scale to keep me motivated...I'll post my first "during" pics next week at the one month mark. Thanks again guys!!!

              Re: Gota goal to reach!

Okay, here's the deal. I've got a double threat. I a)live in Michigan. We have four seasons: Almost winter, winter, still winter and construction. Cardio around here causes frostbite IN MAY!! As an added bonus, I b) have constant gout attacks due to weight. So its a real challenge to get in any exercise so I went to the Salvation Army and picked up a CRAPLOAD of exercise videos and tapes. If I cant move laterally, I use one that I dont have to as much. My favorite is still the Tae Bo. All in all though, exercise is the key to taking advantage of ketosis. Good luck!!
