  • My before picture.

Hello all, I noticed some other people were posting their before pictures and having that as a kind of reference thread to come back to. It'd be nice to look at this thread when I'm thinking about wavering. (I apologize for the funny look on my face; it was really sunny, and I wasn't ready for the picture, but it's the only full body picture I can find.) This was yesterday at 176. My goal weight is 120, do you guys think that's overboard?

Edited to add: I'm 5'3" and 18 years old. I want to nip this weight problem in the bud while I'm still young!

Not at all! You can absolutely reach that goal. You're young and it will be fairly easy for you at this age.

It sounds totally realistic to me at your age and height.

A lot will depend on build and muscle mass, IMO. I used to maintain 120-125 through my 20s through about age 35, difficult because I was "borderline hypothyroid" at the time, but still doable. I am 5'6" and medium build.

Then I worked hard to keep from going over 135 until the 50s, increasingly difficult because of an undiagnosed underactive thyroid, didn't lose control until after menopause, which seems to be when my thyroid condition went downhill fast. Hopefully, you won't have that with which to contend, though.

I am nearing senior citizenship and aiming for 135, but will have to see when I get closer whether or not that is realistic. Of course, I would love to see 125 back again, but that may be because I grew up in the Twiggy era. I do know everyone started worrying about me and trying to feed me when I went below 120, but I am three inches taller than you.

I believe you can most certainly accomplish your goal following Atkins. It’s great that you are tackling things while you’re younger because trust me when I say that the older you get, the harder it is to get it off.
          All the best to you!
