  • First Week Pic

    Well I'm normally a LURKER.. One that sits in the back, looking at the boards, Saying WOW and OMG under my breath at all the success.
    I started Atkins on Wednesday at 316lbs. This is not my heaviest, but darn close. So far I'm down to 311lbs. Yeah my first 5lbs.
    I figured I'd better start this journey by adding a starting picture.

    This was taken this afternoon at the Zoo.

    I'll update pictures as I get them taken.

    Here's one I just took this AM. Kinda hard to take a picture of yourself with a fast timer YIKES. But this was the best I could do. Next time will use the wifes fingers to make it happen.

    Hey chip there is some courage!

    I too have been lurking on here for a couple of weeks... And I too have been saying WOW... OMG and more!

    I am currently 286 lbs and am due to start Atkins on the 1st of August, I am spending the rest of this week reading the book (and 3 other Atkins ones I just bought) and clearing out the food in the kitchen.

    The main thing thats holding me back is knowing what to get to have as lunches at work... So I have this week to work that out.

    On the 1st I plan on having some pictures taken and seeing as you had the guts, I have promised myself I have no excuses!

    Well done, you have taken the first step, I look forward to watching your progress

      Hi and welcome Chipster -- there is no reason to hide in the shadows, we don't bite (unless you need a little tough love along the way!!). Congratulations on your first 5 -- you won't believe how good you'll start feeling and how easy this will be for you.

        Welcome Chipster! You won't regret posting a "before" pic. It's great to compare when you get further down the Atkins road.

                      Well 2 weeks on and 10 lbs down. I was kinda bummed, that I wasnot down more, and for the past 4 days I've not really moved down on the scale, but when I d the keto tests I have been in Ketosis. So atleast I can hang my hat on that Been drinking plenty of water, thinking maybe too much so gong to monitor my intake and make sure it's 8-10 8oz a day and not anymore.

                      Other then that all seems to be going well.

                        Chip - don't worry about too much water. This plan requires a minimum of 64 oz per day and even more (don't have my book handy but I believe another 8 oz for every 10 pounds you want to lose.) I myself drink a minimum of 100 per day and I'm not floating!

                        Are you tracking your foods in Fitday or any other program? Just wondering if you're hitting your 65% fat/35% protein/5% carbs?

                        Congratulations on your progress so far - look forward to hearing more success stories from you.



                        Mini goal #1 - 196 - 10% of the old me gone Met 6/30/09!!!
                        Mini goal #2 - 185 - BMI - no longer obese Met 12/23/09!!!
                        Mini goal #3 - 174 - 20% of the old me gone
                        Mini goal #4 - 154 - BMI no longer overweight

                          Keep it up chip!

                          From spending the last few days doing nothing but reading atkins forums one thing I have learned is that everyone is different.

                          Some people seem to take days and days to get into ketosis, I was in ketosis (according to pee strips within 36 hours!)..

                          Some people loose massive amounts in the first week, some loose none.

                          One thing I have found though.. EVERYONE who has stuck with it, has eventually got within a few lbs of their goal.

                          Interestingly it seems the heavier you are, the quicker the weight falls off.. lucky for you and me!!! but the closer you get, or are, to a ideal weight the harder it seems to shift the last couple of pounds. Having said that, I will be happy if I end up 10lbs overweight for my whole life!!!! (rather than 100lbs or more overweight as i am now!)

                            Thanks for the info. I ran a couple days of FitDay, and I think I'm on track. I'm at 75% Fat, 5% Carb, and 20% Protein. I learned by using that site, that my intake of Olive Oil was too high, as well the Balsamic Vinegar was 2.7 carbs YIKES more then I had thought.
                            So now I went out and purchased some South Beach Ranch Dressing that has 3 grams of carbs.

                            Anyone have an alternate choice on Dressings that are Atkins Friendly?

                            I plan on taking a 3 week photo tomorrow and will post those results I don't see any loss, but the scale is showing some loss and I'm in Ketosis so we'll see what the masses thinks
