I got divorced a year ago from a 18 year marrage and my life is a total wreck. I am tired of living like this So In the morning im getting up and quiting smoking and starting induction. Tomorrow starts the first day of my new life.

Here are my current pics i am 280lb

    Wish me luck.

Good luck on your journey....I am also new-ish to Atkins, I am in the first stages of induction Good luck also with the no smoking....I quit 3 months ago....wow..what a difference.

Sometimes re-invention is the best cure all !

Remember......the mind is a powerful tool...lets use it to help us as opposed to hinder us! You can certainly achieve both quitting smoking and weight-loss.....just keep strong and keep your eye on your goals........Success is more about consistency than anything else...

You look like the kind of guy that can keep a deal with himself....no need to be scared...this one decision....and sticking to it....changes everything for you.

Best of luck to ya tom

Love the pics...I stopped smoking in January of '08 and it wasn't as hard as everyone made it out to be. I know it has made a huge difference in my health. I might not have been smoking for as long as you but I know you can do it.

This board is great source of support and everyone is so loving and helpful. With this kind of support you will make it far.

        Good luck!

            Hi Tom! Welcome!
I am a Second Time Around person...so you KNOW it can be done and most of us have a slip here and there-You can do this! I gained back 20 pounds when I quit smoking in March of this year- I just put them down and said enough after 30+ years....the food was alot harder!

I stayed at my "then" goal weight for 4 years up to that point staying low carb MOST of the time- The cigs were a crutch that I gave up! Now I am going for the gold...and I WILL do it- YOU WILL TOO!

Stick with us! It is never easy but it is WORTH EVERY OUNCE!!!!

              Hey Tom
              welcome to the board
You will love it here, nice people, good advice
You can do this, nothing to be scared about.
The first week is rough, but stick with it.
I am not sure about stopping smoking and induction at same time,
wait a week for the smoking as the induction flu can be hard.
come here often to read and post

I started today too! You have nothing to be scared of, this board is great and people are really helpful here.
This is my second time round on the atkins and first time to be on this board.
In all fairness, I agree with Sandi re the smoking. Take one thing at a time.

                      Go for it Tom,

I started out about the same weight as you about 10 weeks ago.. so far have lost something like 30 lbs and many inches!

Water is important in this diet, its part of the chemical process.. stay away from pre packaged processed foods, thats also a big key.

With the smoking, I chose to loose my weight first, get into this new way of life and then quit.. maybe I am just weak, so I admire what your doing with hitting the whole reset button and improving your life in so many ways!

                      Im rooting for you tom!

                        Hi Tom:

I'm wishing you the best of luck. You can do this!

Just remember to not give in to cravings, peer pressure etc. Whenever you're thinking of cheating, get on the site and vent. There's always a fellow Atkineer that has sound advice or motivation. Also, looking at the before and after pictures of others is a big push.

Start everyday like it's the first day of the rest of your life. You deserve a happy, healthy life.

he posted this on his facebook so friends could follow him. However doing so has caused one of his friends to come out, blasting the diet and saying it caused her father to need a quadruple bypass. I was a bit abrasive in my reply to her, but I still maintain that this diet will show you a whole new side of yourself.

It makes you so happy that you gleefully go into the miantenance phase and you just stick to this way of life.

I have yet to see any study produce anything negative when it comes to Atkins.

To each his/her own opinion! MANY factors go into having a bypass...most reasons we will never know- except it has to do with 1) a congenital defect or 2) not taking care of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
