Dr. A said no to caffeine, however, he did say that you may introduce coffee back after Induction and if it doesn't affect your weight loss, then have a cup.
I doubt anyone will agree with me, BUT this is MY experience: I tried to eliminate my one vice: coffee. I failed. I have lost 94 lbs drinking morning coffee. BUT I also drink at least 100 oz of water everyday and rarely, pop. It's up to you, but if you want the best results, I would get rid of caffeine.

I think it's a very individual thing. It may drop blood sugar levels in some people, which could cause serious cravings... It's not about it affecting ketosis per se, but that it might cause some people to give in to cravings, which I suppose could then go on to knock you out of ketosis if you overindulge in carbs to satisfy those cravings.
I didn't give up my coffee. A couple of times in the past, I tried a gradual shift to decaf (to avoid the gawd awful caffeine withdrawal headache), but I just couldn't stand the taste of the decaf. If you can do decaf, or even do half and half, then go for it!
:yes
BTW, I have a mug of coffee 3 times a day - morning, lunch and late afternoon.
I will never drink decaf mostly because they use chemicals to remove the caffeine and I don't believe that is good for your health either. I would rather deal with the caffeine.

:wave I am a type 2 diabetic in perfect control. I did not give up coffee and it does not effect my blood sugars, cravings or my weight loss. I have only one huge craving and that is to get in better shape, keep my muscles, & lose the extra fat I have. So far it is working nicely.

Yep, I think it's a case of knowing your body's response to things. If you think the caffeine is causing a problem, then try decaf or a half/half solution.
Or make sure you're having your breakfast with your coffee and that should help keep your blood sugar levels stable.
BTW, there are naturally decaffeinated coffees out there - more expensive, but they are out there.
Atkins Accel has 50mg of caffeine in it. It's not recommended for induction.
Caffeine has been known to promote the release of insulin. However, I remember reading a study that caffeine doesn't raise insulin levels if the person didn't take anything else that could significantly raise blood sugar.
I think that there might be a sweet spot for each person where a certain amount of caffeine is optimal. Just a hypothesis, mind you.

6 weeks ago or maybe 7 i was soooo stalled at 127. had been there for ages is seems. so i do these little experiments with my food and such.
(now keep in mind i am very close to goal )
first week of experiment i did not eat any of my bryers lc ice cream.
(don't jump my case folks)
nothing happened, nothing.
second week of experiment i added the ice cream back in and got rid of the caffine coffee for 2 days then drank half caf.
results of the experiment?
6 weeks later i am 5 pounds down.
i did not change up any exercise or any other food.
experimentation is good!

I used to be a coffee addict in school. Then one day I over did my coffee/caffeine and I thought I was going to die during one of the lectures---heart started racing, felt dizzy and nauseous, began sweating. So, I kicked the caffeine habit. That was about 12 years ago. For four years I completely avoided caffeine and then I slowly added about 1 cup of coffee or tea once a week.
I was a work-related conference last Saturday. So I decided to drink the coffee they supplied. That stuff was really strong and after drinking about 3/4 of a cup, I felt light headed and dizzy. My pulse shot from 62 to 90 and stayed at 90 for 20 minutes. In fact, it didn't return back to normal for a good 6 hours. All the while I had one **** of a headache (so I figure my blood pressure was increased too!) And when it returned to normal I was so tired that I fell asleep for a couple of hours.
As soon as I felt the dizziness, I started drinking water (and of course getting up throughout the conference to use the bathroom :sarcasm ) I didn't develop any cravings, but the headache, faster pulse, and fatigue were horrible---just like the "Induction flu".
I never realized I have become that sensitive to caffeine that it would affect me like that.
